Tottenham Hotspur will attempt to sign Argentinian defender Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth this summer, according to an exclusive report by The Athletic.
The Argentine international has enjoyed a stellar campaign on the south coast, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable and admired left-footed central defenders.
According to the report, Spurs are eager to recruit a quality centre-back capable of providing both tactical flexibility and genuine competition for Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, although both could still leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer with Senesi serving as a replacement for either.
Marcos Senesi to Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer
Senesi, 28, has earned plaudits for his aggressive style of play, aerial dominance, and his ball-playing ability out from the back.
Since joining the Cherries from Feyenoord in 2022, Senesi has become a vital component of Bournemouth's defensive unit, but with his contract entering its final few months, Tottenham believe there is an opportunity to strike a deal.
The move comes at a pivotal time for Spurs, who have looked vulnerable throughout the 2025/26 season but particularly during injury lay-offs to their starting defensive pair.
Bringing in a player with Senesi’s Premier League experience would mitigate those risks as the club prepares for the 2026/27 campaign, which they hope will be spent in the Premier League.
Any deal for Senesi would be contingent on Spurs retaining their top flight status, The Athletic reports.
Bournemouth lost central defensive pair Ilia Zabarnyi and Dean Huijsen to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid last summer, respectively.
This year, the club have already announced they will part ways with head coach Andoni Iraola who will leave after three years in charge.
Senesi would be Spurs' second free agent signing of the summer transfer window, should they remain in the Premier League, with the club also expected to add Andy Robertson to their ranks following the expiry of his Liverpool contract.
Tottenham face Brighton this weekend as new boss Roberto De Zerbi faces his former club. The team are two points adrift of safety, sitting uncharacteristically within the Premier League relegation zone.
