Tottenham Hotspur has revealed a striking special edition Lunar New Year pre-match shirt, created in collaboration with Nike and Chinese artist Luna, to celebrate the Year of the Horse.
The limited-edition design will be worn by Spurs’ Men’s First Team during warm-ups ahead of their fixture against Newcastle United, and by the Women’s First Team before their match against Aston Villa this Sunday — bringing the cultural celebration onto football’s biggest stage.
Lunar New Year is observed across East and Southeast Asia on Tuesday 17 February, and the horse — this year’s zodiac symbol — represents freedom, energy and determination. Those qualities are woven throughout the design, alongside subtle references to Tottenham Hotspur’s identity and heritage.
A Design Rooted in Motion, Energy and Club History
Rendered in the style of traditional line drawing, the shirt features intricate mane-like patterns sweeping across the fabric, evoking the motion of a horse in full sprint. The flowing lines symbolise raw power and momentum — a visual metaphor for ambition and forward movement.
A bold silhouette of Tottenham Hotspur’s iconic cockerel crest dominates the back of the shirt, while sponsor logos appear on the front in a striking gold finish, adding a celebratory Lunar New Year touch.
Hidden within the design are four subtle “easter eggs” that nod to the club’s legacy, including outlines of the THFC monogram and the text “N17”, referencing Tottenham’s North London postcode. A QR code is also integrated into the shirt, unlocking exclusive video content linked to the campaign.
Meet the Artist Behind the Shirt
The design was created by Shanghai-based artist Luna, known for her work exploring nature, wildlife mythology and movement. Her creative process is documented in a short film produced by Shanghai creative agency Royal Club, released today across Tottenham Hotspur’s official channels.
Speaking on the collaboration, Luna said:
“I’m truly honoured to share my hopes and blessings for the Year of the Horse through this initiative, passing that energy to the players and fans. For me, it also feels like a powerful, motivating start to the year.”
Celebrating a Global Fanbase
Duncan Pass, Merchandise & Licensing Director at Tottenham Hotspur, emphasised the importance of recognising cultural moments that resonate with supporters worldwide:
“We are incredibly proud of the diversity of our fanbase, and celebrating cultural moments that matter deeply to our supporters across the world throughout the year is extremely important to us. Lunar New Year is a time of reflection, renewal and hope for many of our fans across Asia — as well as right here in the UK — and we’re honoured to share in that celebration with a special edition shirt worn by both our Men’s and Women’s teams ahead of huge matches this week.”
