TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM LEADS THE WAY IN ACCESSIBILITY WITH UK
Football accessibility has taken a major step forward as the iconic player murals outside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium become the first of their kind in the UK to feature audio description services for visually impaired fans.
The murals celebrating club legends Son Heung-min, Harry Kane, and Ledley King now include QR codes linking directly to detailed audio descriptions of the artwork. The initiative has been delivered by the David Katz Foundation in partnership with street art collective MurWalls.
Breaking New Ground for Accessibility in Sport
The audio descriptions are voiced by Daniel Wynne, Tottenham Hotspur’s matchday audio description commentator and Chairman of the David Katz Foundation. Fans attending Tottenham’s upcoming fixture against Crystal Palace F.C. will be the first to experience the feature in action.
The match is also being dedicated to Level Playing Field’s ‘Unite for Access’ campaign, which promotes accessibility awareness across UK sporting venues. The campaign aims to encourage stadiums and clubs to continue improving experiences for supporters with access requirements.
Club Legends Celebrate Inclusive Art Initiative
The murals were officially unveiled by Tottenham Ambassador Ledley King, who added the final touches to his own mural at the Tottenham Community Sports Centre.
King said:
“Inclusivity is so important and our club does a great job in providing an accessible experience for all supporters… it’s been great to see how we are providing that around the stadium.”
Artists and Charity Highlight Power of Inclusive Culture
Marc Silver, CEO and founder of MurWalls, highlighted the cultural and social impact of the project:
“This project is about more than murals — it’s about access, empowerment and inclusion… we’re proud to help bring audio description to life so visually impaired fans can experience the artwork just as powerfully as everyone else.”
MurWalls has worked with the David Katz Foundation since its inception to promote accessible public art and community-driven design projects across the UK.
Spurs Set Benchmark for Accessibility in Football
Tottenham Hotspur F.C. continues to position itself as a leader in stadium accessibility and inclusive fan experiences.
The club’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium offers:
Dedicated accessible entrances for home and away supporters
Three fully equipped Changing Places facilities
In addition to the new audio description mural service, matchdays also provide:
British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation services
BSL integration within stadium tour content
Induction loop systems at kiosks for hearing aid users
The stadium also features a dedicated Sensory Suite located in the North Stand, providing a calm, controlled environment for supporters with sensory processing conditions.
Why This Matters for UK Sport Accessibility
This initiative aligns with growing pressure on sporting venues to improve accessibility infrastructure and digital inclusion tools. Projects like this help ensure football remains a sport for all fans, regardless of physical ability.
As UK stadiums continue to evolve, Tottenham Hotspur’s latest project could set a blueprint for other clubs looking to enhance fan experience through technology and art.
