Archie Gray, the 19-year-old versatile midfielder (who has often played in defence due to Tottenham’s injury issues), has reportedly suffered an injury that will keep him sidelined for up to eight weeks. This news broke early on October 29, 2025, via a report from The Sun’s Jake Saunders.

Fan reaction has been predictable enough on X so far:

Duke: No one can overcome the Tottenham medical department curse.

James: We can not catch a break ever

Jackson Berliner: What happened???

The exact circumstances aren’t fully detailed yet, but speculation on X suggests it occurred in training yesterday, after Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Everton on October 26. Manager Thomas Frank didn’t mention it in his pre-Newcastle press conference the day before.

This adds to our ongoing defensive injury crisis, with players like Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, and Dominic Solanke already out. Gray had been filling in at left-back and centre-back, and his absence leaves the squad even thinner ahead of the Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle this evening.

Tottenham being left with just 15 outfield players is an unmitigated disaster under any circumstances. Never more so, given the fact that Ange Postecoglou was blamed for causing injury disruption during his tenure.

Gray has struggled to gain game time this term, and now, it looks as if he’ll be out until late December 2025 at the earliest, potentially missing 8–10 matches across the Premier League, Champions League, and cup competitions.

Many fans have already made the case that Thomas Frank is suffering from Daniel Levy’s true legacy, which is a first-team squad that costs a fortune and is sadly missing vital players that any manager would need.

Quite how the former Brentford gaffer is supposed to meaningfully compete with wholly inconsistent players like Richarlison and Solanke is anyone’s business.

This season, the creative drive has almost singularly come from Mohammed Kudus, and one player simply isn’t a credible force in one of the world’s most competitive divisions.
