Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a summer move for James Trafford from Manchester City.
The 23-year-old is behind Gianluigi Donnarumma in the pecking order, and he might need to leave the club in order to play more often. According to reports via CaughtOffside, Spurs and Chelsea would be willing to provide him with the exit route.
James Trafford was exceptional before the Man City move
Trafford has shown his quality with Burnley, and he has impressed with Manchester City in his limited appearances as well. Trafford kept 29 clean sheets in 45 Championship matches last season. He could prove to be a superb addition for Tottenham. They might need to replace Guglielmo Vicario in the summer.
The Italian has been inconsistent and has a glaring weakness when dealing with aerial balls. Trafford has no such obvious weakness, and he has a higher ceiling. He could develop into a top-class Premier League goalkeeper with regular game time.
Trafford has already been hailed as a ‘world-class’ keeper by former Tottenham star Scott Parker, who managed the player at Burnley.
Trafford could fancy a Spurs move
The opportunity to join Spurs will be exciting for Trafford. He would get regular game time at a high level, and it would help him fulfil his potential. It remains to be seen whether Manchester City is prepared to let him leave. They will not be able to provide him the starting spot ahead of Donnarumma, and it would make sense for them to cash in on the player.
The 23-year-old English goalkeeper is too good to sit on the bench at Manchester City, and he needs to explore other opportunities in the summer. Chelsea could be an attractive destination for him as well. It remains to be seen when he will eventually end up.
