Daniel Levy’s departure from Tottenham has sent shockwaves around the Premier League in recent days.
The Spurs chief has called time on his involvement with the club after a 25-year stint in the hierarchy, and his departure has resulted in heavy speculation of a potential takeover.
ENIC remain adamant that Tottenham are not for sale under any circumstances, but it still looks likely to be something of a transition period for the North Londoners.
Levy’s exit marks the end of an era in N17, and there are undoubtedly mixed feelings surrounding his tenure in charge.
Tottenham could have won Premier League titles under Daniel Levy
Levy has been a controversial figure at Tottenham over the years, as plenty of fans point to his lack of willingness to spend money and occasional transfer failings as something that has held the club back.
MORE SPURS STORIES
He has overseen existential progress off the pitch and in the running of the club, but the footballing side of things has often left a lot to be desired.
The 63-year-old rounded off his time in charge with a trophy as Spurs tasted Europa League glory back in May, but there has always been a sense that more could have been achieved.
Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that Spurs could have won Premier League titles under Levy if he had stretched their capabilities a little further.
“He did establish us back in European football and the exponential growth of the club to where it is now. We are rightly considered one of the big six,” Wenham said.
“A lot of that is down to Levy, but on the whole, I think there’ll always be an angle of ‘what if he pushed on a little bit more?’
“We could be sitting here with a couple of Premier League titles as well, and that’s where the frustration certainly lies amongst the fan base.”
Thomas Frank may be a good parting gift from Daniel Levy
Levy’s appointment of Thomas Frank proved to be one of his final major acts as Spurs chairman, and the early signs suggest that it could also be one of his best.
The Dane has made a bright start in the dugout in N17, and he looks like the right man to take the club forward.
The Tottenham faithful have already taken well to Frank and his style of football, and it looks as though his appointment could end up being something of a parting gift from Levy.
It is still very much the early stages of his reign, but the early signs are certainly very promising.
