Tottenham Hotspur have identified Savinho as their 'dream' Brennan Johnson replacement with the January transfer window now open, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs.

Johnson is on the verge of sealing a £33.5m move to Crystal Palace after being told by Spurs manager Thomas Frank that he was no longer in his plans, with a medical taking place on Thursday night.

Now the north London club will work on bringing in a replacement before the February 2 deadline.

Tottenham had been in for Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo - who is now expected to join Manchester City - before removing themselves from the race after the Ghana international told them he wasn't interested in joining.

Now, they could test City's resolve again by making a second move for Savinho this month.

Tottenham Need 'Serious Money' to Sign Savinho

Tottenham were prepared to pay more than £70m to bring the Brazil international in from the Etihad during last summer's transfer window, but the move was blocked by Man City CEO Ferran Soriano.

Spurs would need to offer a similar fee to £70m, which was deemed attractive by City before they decided the player wasn't for sale, again in mid-season to have any chance of entering negotiations to complete a transfer.

According to Jacobs, writing in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter, the north Londoners could test City's resolve again this month for a player who was keen on joining them just a few months ago.

Tottenham Need Savinho

Despite adding the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani to their frontline during the summer, things haven't really clicked well for Tottenham in the final third.

At the halfway mark of the Premier League season, they have scored 27 goals in 19 matches and Frank was booed by some supporters following the dull 0-0 draw with his old club Brentford on New Year's Day.

Spurs need an injection of quality and pace to offer something different in their attack when Johnson leaves, and Savinho would provide the answer as he loves to constantly run against and harass defenders.

The 21-year-old is able to play either on the left or right wing and while he isn't the finished product yet, Pep Guardiola has tipped him to go on to become a 'top-class' player.

Crucial Week for Thomas Frank's Future

After another unwatchable display against Brentford, Frank now faces a defining week which could impact his future as Tottenham manager.

Currently lying in 12th position in the Premier League standings, Spurs host seventh-placed Sunderland at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, before travelling to Bournemouth on Wednesday night.

Those two league games are followed by a third round FA Cup tie at home to high-flying Aston Villa, as the north Londoners look to secure a win against Unai Emery's side in their bid to win a domestic trophy.
