AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, and Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for him.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Newcastle United are working to sign the player and recent reports state that the defender could be closing in on a move to the English club. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to swoop in with an offer to sign the player.

Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have been mentioned as potential destinations as well.

Tottenham need defensive depth

They need more defensive depth on the side, and the German could be a useful acquisition. The 24-year-old has shown his ability in Italy, and he could be a solid performer in the Premier League as well. He has the physicality and technical attributes to thrive in English football.

His international teammate, Antonio Rudiger, has labelled him as a player with a “great personality”.

Malick Thiaw would help them improve

Tottenham have an exciting project, and they need quality players in order to keep pushing for trophies. They managed to win the UEFA Europa League last season, and they need to build on that this summer. They have not been able to bring in too many quality signings so far. They need to improve multiple areas of their squad, and adding more depth to the defensive unit would be a step in the right direction.

They were one of the most vulnerable defensive units in the Premier League last season. They barely finished above the relegation zone, and they cannot afford to finish in that zone once again. A club of their stature should be finishing in the top four, and they need to tighten up at the back in order for that to happen.

The opportunity to play for them can be quite attractive for the 24-year-old as well. It will be interesting to see if he decides to move to Newcastle instead.
