Tottenham Hotspur have held talks to sign Kyle Walker-Peters, who is out of contract at Southampton at the end of the month, according to a report from TBR Football.
Spurs will be working behind the scenes to try and find players to improve Thomas Frank's squad after he was appointed as manager earlier this month. Despite their Europa League title triumph in the 2024/2025 season, Spurs need fresh reinforcements after a disappointing campaign domestically.
We're yet to see Tottenham make a new signing since the window opened, except for Mathys Tel, whose loan move was made permanent from Bayern Munich. Walker-Peters is a player who will be on the move in the summer transfer window after Southampton confirmed this week that he wasn't going to be extending his contract, which is due to expire in the coming days.
Tottenham Hold Talks to Sign Walker-Peters
He's open to returning to the club
According to a report from TBR Football, Tottenham have opened talks to sign their former right-back Walker-Peters, after initially selling the 28-year-old back in 2020. Johan Lange has been in discussions with the defender, who is open to returning to the club in the summer transfer window.
Labelled a 'beautiful footballer' by Russell Martin for his performances during his time at Southampton, Walker-Peters has enjoyed an impressive stint with the now-Championship club. Walker-Peters' versatility could make him a useful option for Frank, with the English full-back capable of playing on either side of defence.
Free transfer additions aren't usually the most exciting, but Walker-Peters is a solid, Premier League defender, and he could suit Frank's system. The new Tottenham boss likes his full-backs to get forward and be involved in the final third, and that is something we see regularly from the Southampton star. On a free transfer, it could be a smart pick-up for the north London outfit this summer.
