Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Burnley defender Maxime Esteve.

The French defender was outstanding in the Championship, and he helped the Clarets secure promotion to the Premier League. He was chosen as the club’s player of the season as well. There is no doubt that he would be an excellent addition, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can get the deal done.

Spurs return for Burnley star

According to a report from L’Equipe, Spurs tried to sign the player during the January transfer window as well, and they failed with a €24 million offer for him. The report claims that they are now ‘back in the game’ and have resumed contact with Burnley.

It will be interesting to see if they can get the deal across the line this time around. The opportunity to join Tottenham could be exciting for the French defender. He is young enough to improve further, and he could develop into a reliable Premier League defender.

Maxime Esteve to replace Romero?

Cristian Romero is likely to leave the club this summer, and Tottenham need to replace him. It will be interesting to see if they decide to sign the Frenchman as his replacement.

He has shown his ability in the Championship, and he has the quality to thrive in the Premier League as well. However, Burnley have secured promotion to the Premier League, and it will be interesting to see if they are willing to let their best defender leave the club.

They valued the player at €35 million in January, and it is fair to assume that the number has gone up after the promotion. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can negotiate a reasonable deal.

Esteve could be tempted to join a big club with Champions League football next season.
