TOTTENHAM have reportedly made a £61million bid for Xavi Simons as they look to hijack Chelsea's transfer for the Dutch star.

Simons is believed to be in London to hold talks over a move to the Premier League - with Tottenham keen on his signature.

His club RB Leipzig has told German outlet Bild that the Dutchman has been "released until further notice for future discussions".

And Sky Germany claims a bid worth £61m has now been submitted by Spurs for Simons, opening the door for a stunning North London switch.

Chelsea have been keen on the 22-year-old all summer but with a move to Stamford Bridge stalling, it has seen Spurs swoop in.

Thomas Frank wants to bolster his playmaking capabilities - especially following the loss for most of the season of James Maddison to a serious knee injury.

They tried and failed to lure Morgan Gibbs-White, who ended up signing a new contract at Nottingham Forest, and Eberechi Eze, who left Crystal Palace for Arsenal instead.

That has turned their attention to former Paris Saint-Germain man Simons instead, who has been allowed to skip Leipzig training in the hope of tying up a switch to England.

Leipzig are keen to sell the 28-cap Netherlands star, but would be looking for around £60million for his services.

Sources suggest he would be looking for around £200,000 a week in wages.

Leipzig could move for Liverpool star Harvey Elliott, 22, if they sell Simons.

So far this summer Tottenham have added to their attack in the form of Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel.

However, they lost long-time captain Son Heung-Min and playmaker James Maddison is a long term injury absentee.

That's led Frank to push for reinforcements with Tottenham balancing domestic duties with the Champions League this season.
