Micky van de Ven has quickly become a fan favourite at Tottenham.
Van de Ven has climbed the ranks at Tottenham since signing from VfL Wolfsburg in 2023 on a six-year contract.
The Dutchman has formed one of the best defensive partnerships in the Premier League alongside Cristian Romero, and fans will be hoping to see the two stunt attacks for years to come.
Tottenham to announce new van de Ven number after Pierre-Emile Højbjerg exit
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg left Tottenham last summer for Marseille on a season-long loan, with the obligation to make the transfer permanent.
As reported by Football London (29 June), Højbjerg officially joined Marseille last Tuesday (1 July) for £17million.

This leaves the number five open, which Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes van de Ven will wear just as he did at Wolfsburg.
“Before people buy shirts, they should wait for numbers to be confirmed,” Wenham said.
“For example, I could see Tottenham announcing van de Ven is the new number five now that Højbjerg has officially left.
“Van de Ven has the five at Wolfsburg, so I could see his number changing. I know a lot of people have already run to the shop to get Van de Ven printed, but I’d wait on that.”
Van de Ven will have a big role at Tottenham
Van de Ven has become one of Spurs’ most important centre-backs, and could assume a bigger role if Romero departs this summer.
Indeed, the Argentine could join Atletico Madrid, and Van de Ven could become Tottenham captain if Son Heung-min follows Romero out the door.
However, Thomas Frank will just be focused on keeping the 24-year-old fit. Van de Ven made just 13 appearances in the Premier League last season, which is unacceptable for one of Spurs’ most valued players.
However, this could have been the result of Ange Postecoglou’s high-risk risk high-reward football, which forced him to cover more ground as their fastest player, and pick up injuries as a result.
Therefore, with Frank’s less intensive approach, Tottenham fans could be seeing a lot more of van de Ven next season.
