Tottenham need to do everything they can to tie down one of their young stars in the summer transfer window after a ‘dirt-cheap’ buy option has emerged.
It's going to be an interesting summer transfer window for Tottenham as they look to build a squad capable of climbing away from the relegation zone if they remain in the Premier League.
If they are relegated, then a host of stars will have to be sold for financial reasons, while they will also undoubtedly be looking for moves back to a top league.
It looks set to be busy from an incoming and outgoing perspective, regardless of their Premier League status.
Keeping some of the young talents at the club for the long-term future would be a smart move.
Tottenham Star Has ‘Dirt-Cheap’ Buy Option
Tottenham need to do everything they can to tie down youngster Alfie Devine and offer him a new contract in the summer.
The midfielder, who is currently on loan at Preston, reportedly has a buy option clause, described by journalist Alasdair Gold as ‘dirt-cheap’.
The release clause is believed to be in the region of £4.5 million, and Gold has urged Roberto De Zerbi to have a look at him in pre-season.
"Preston have got an option to buy him, thought to be around 4.5 million, which a lot of people are saying is quite steep. Look, if I'm Preston, I don't want Devine to go because I do genuinely think he's got so much talent. I'd love Roberto De Zerbi to have a look at him before he makes any decision. If I'm Preston, I'm probably thinking, can we stretch to £4.5 million, because he's instantly probably worth more than that? It's quite low for him. I think he will go for triple that."
Devine might not be ready to make an immediate impact in the Premier League next season, but he could certainly be a smart squad option if other players head through the exit door.
Devine Enjoys Impressive Preston Spell
The young midfielder enjoyed an impressive spell on loan in the Championship with Preston this season.
The 21-year-old played 45 times in England's second tier, providing 14 goals and assists combined.
As mentioned, multiple Tottenham players might be looking for exits, with Spurs not playing in Europe next season, so keeping players at the club might be crucial.
Offering him a new deal if Preston fail to activate the buy option would be a smart move, considering their is likely to be a big turnover of players in the summer window.
