Tottenham Hotspur have taken a step forward in their pursuit of Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, with talks now set to begin over a potential summer move.

The transfer window has now reopened on 16 June, following its brief closure between 10 and 15 June, which allowed clubs participating in the Club World Cup to complete their signings before the start of the competition.

All clubs can now go about their summer business until the window shuts on 1 September, including Tottenham Hotspur, who have already completed two signings, with Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso signing permanently early in the window, following their initial winter loan moves.

Of course, for a club looking to compete on multiple fronts next season, more additions are needed, and Tottenham have now been linked with a move for striker Arnaud Kalimuendo.

Tottenham begin talks with Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo

This report comes from French outlet L’Equipe, who are now reporting that Spurs are looking to step up their pursuit of the 23-year-old forward by entering into discussions with Rennes management.

Arnaud Kalimuendo impressed in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 18 goals in 34 appearances for Rennes, a display that has now attracted interest from other clubs, not just Tottenham.

It is claimed that Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle United are also interested in the forward, but they have still not made any concrete move for the 23-year-old, despite holding preliminary discussions.

However, Tottenham have decided to accelerate their efforts in recent hours by making direct contact with Rennes to begin formal talks.

While contacts have been made, it has also been reported that Tottenham are yet to table an official offer and are expected to wait until they have a clearer idea of Rennes’ valuation of their striker.

Kalimuendo still has two years left on his current deal with Rennes, which means negotiations may not be entirely straightforward for Spurs.

Tottenham would certainly be keen to add another striker to their ranks, particularly if Richarlison departs this summer, as the Brazilian has been linked with potential moves away from north London.
