Tottenham Hotspur have now taken a significant step towards signing England international Angel Gomes as the Lilywhites try to steal a march over two of their Premier League rivals in the transfer race.

Spurs are expected to be in the market for midfield reinforcements in the summer, with reports over recent weeks claiming that Yves Bissouma is expected to leave Tottenham this summer.

A few outlets have reported over the past month that Lille’s Angel Gomes has emerged as one of Tottenham’s top transfer targets.

However, Gomes is on the radar of other Premier League sides, thus complicating Spurs’ transfer pursuit, but it has now emerged that Ange Postecoglou’s men have now taken the first step towards completing the deal for the player.

Tottenham have opened talks with Angel Gomes

Football Transfers have now revealed that Tottenham are ‘eager’ to win the race for Angel Gomes, whose contract with Lille runs out in June.

The Lilywhites are now said to have ‘initiated talks’ with the 24-year-old’s representatives regarding a free transfer to North London in the summer.

Manchester United and West Ham are also on the England international’s trail, but Postecoglou’s men have identified the player as a ‘key target’ and are ‘determined’ to add him to their Spurs squad.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Ange Postecoglou’s side are determined to bolster their squad during the 2025 summer window, and we have been informed that Gomes has emerged as a key target for the North London outfit.

Will Spurs be able to persuade Gomes to sign?

With the midfielder into the final six months of his contract, he is allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with the non-French club before the summer.

If Man Utd and West Ham are Tottenham’s main competitors for Gomes’s signature, the North Londoners would perhaps fancy their chances of winning the race.

However, if a Champions League club enters the fray, which one would expect to happen as we get closer to the summer window, Spurs will have their work cut out in convincing the midfielder to come to N17.
