Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in appointing Xabi Alonso as their next manager.
The 43-year-old Spaniard was sacked by Real Madrid recently. According to a report from Fichajes, Tottenham have begun formal negotiations with him. It will be interesting to see whether they decide to appoint him midseason.
Spurs in talks with Xabi Alonso
The report claims that negotiations are progressing well at Tottenham and that they hope to appoint him as their new manager soon. The club hierarchy believes he is the ideal modern manager for them, and his tactics will suit the players.
Thomas Frank was appointed as the club’s manager at the start of the season, and Tottenham started the season well. However, they have struggled in recent months and are in mid-table. The Danish manager is under a lot of pressure, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham decides to part ways with him.
Xabi Alonso would be a superb appointment
Alonso is highly rated across Europe and regarded as one of the finest young managers in the game. He did an exceptional job at Bayer Leverkusen, and there is no doubt that he has a bright future. Even though the spell at Real Madrid has not worked out for him, he could still be an excellent acquisition for Tottenham.
Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has labelled Alonso as “one of the best in the world”.
He said: “Alonso has done an incredible job, and he has the doors open to him because he has shown he is one of the best in the world”.
The opportunity to manage in the Premier League could be exciting for the 43-year-old manager. He is certainly good enough to succeed at this level, and he will look to make his mark at Tottenham if the move goes through.
