Tottenham Hotspur have made contact over a deal to sign Como playmaker Martin Baturina, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.
Tottenham and Roberto De Zerbi want to make wholesale changes to the squad this summer to ensure they don't repeat successive 17th-place finishes in the Premier League again next season.
Spurs have laid down a marker to their top flight rivals with the business they have already done, bringing in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka on free transfers, and Jan Paul van Hecke for a fee of £52m.
It looks as though their most impressive business is still to come though, as De Zerbi eyes an ambitious double deal to sign Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes from Newcastle United and West Ham United respectively.
Signing both would be a real statement of intent and would send out a message that the north Londoners mean business next term, given the duo have been targets for some of the very biggest clubs in the Premier League.
As well as midfield, Tottenham are also looking to make additions in attack too, with Randal Kolo Muani already returning to PSG following an underwhelming loan spell, and doubts over the futures of players like Richarlison.
Tottenham Ask for Information on Baturina Deal
According to Moretto, speaking on the Fabrizio Romano in Italiano channel on YouTube, the Croatia international is another Como player attracting interest from big clubs across Europe, just like teammate Nico Paz.
Baturina is said to be attracting interest from teams in the Premier League and the Bundesliga, with Moretto confirming that Tottenham and Aston Villa have both asked for information on a deal to sign the 23-year-old.
The English duo would face big competition for Baturina's signature though, with Bayern Munich also showing interest in the Croatian playmaker.
The journalist adds that, as of today, Como are unwilling to sell the player as they want him to be part of their project and star for them in the Champions League next season.
The Serie A side are said to value the Croatian star at €80m (£70m), should they decide to sell, according to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio earlier this summer.
Doubts Raised Over James Maddison's Future?
If Tottenham did sign both Tonali and Fernandes, they would surely take the two central midfield spots in De Zerbi's lineup, leaving one spot for another more advanced midfielder ahead of them.
James Maddison would be the favourite to fill the role despite spending almost a year on the sidelines through injury, given the form and leadership he has shown in that position previously.
Bringing in someone like Baturina for big money would raise doubts over Maddison's long-term future though, given the Croatian would be expecting to start more often than not if he did make the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
De Zerbi also needs to find space in his XI for others like Dejan Kulusevski, while Lucas Bergvall could leave after making it clear he sees his future elsewhere following the appointment of De Zerbi.
