Tottenham are set to send Yang Min-hyeok on loan to Championship leaders Coventry City, but not all supporters are convinced.

Yang was recently linked with a shock move to Real Madrid, despite struggling for playing time with Portsmouth in the first half of the season.

The South Korea international started just nine Championship games for Portsmouth, while featuring a further six times from the bench.

Spurs’ frustration has grown over Yang’s lack of minutes, so much so that they now intend to send him on loan to a different Championship side.

Coventry City set to take Yang Min-hyeok on loan

Tottenham fans would love to see Yang replicate compatriot Son Heung-min – or come even remotely close – but he is not yet being given a chance to truly showcase his talents.

MORE SPURS STORIES

As per BBC Sport’s Chris Wise, Spurs took the decision on Monday to recall Yang from his loan spell at Fratton Park.

The 19-year-old winger will now sign on loan with Coventry, who are managed by Frank Lampard, as they have promised to give him more minutes.

However, many fans across Coventry, Portsmouth and Tottenham were quick to point out that the promise made my the Sky Blues seems unlikely.

Yang struggled for starts in a side at the wrong end of the division, so breaking into high-flying Coventry’s side will be even tougher.

“Honestly bonkers if he gets more minutes there than he’s getting here,” one Portsmouth supporters wrote on X.

Another wrote: “This is very strange. How is a player who cannot hold down a place in a relegation threatened team going to walk in to the team top of the table and play more?

Others pointed out that he may get a chance to thrive in a more attacking team.

One Portsmouth fans aired his anger at John Mousinho for simply not getting more out of Yang.

How has Yang performed away from Tottenham so far?

In his 15 appearances for Portsmouth in the first half of the season, Yang scored three times and assisted another.

That includes a goal in what proved to be his final match at Fratton Park in the 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic on 29 December.

Yang’s four direct goal involvements across just 657 minutes of action in a struggling side is not a bad return at all.

During his spell with QPR last season, meanwhile, Yang scored twice and assisted another in 14 league outings.

There is clearly a talented player in there, then, and hopefully the next four months at Coventry under Lampard give the youngster a chance to truly thrive.
