Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close watch on Luka Vušković’s situation at Hamburg SV.

Last summer, Tottenham let the 19-year-old join the German club on a season-long loan deal.

The centre-back has been one of the standout performers for the German club this season and that has caught Barcelona and Bayern Munich attention.

His league stats this season are as follows:

Appearances: 25

Starts: 25

Interceptions per game: 1.2

Tackles per game: 0.8

Ball recovered per game: 4.4

Clearances per game: 9.1

Duels won per game: 7.6

A knee injury forced the Croatia international to miss last weekend’s 4-0 defeat to VfB Stuttgart.

Two days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that Spurs medical staff are in contact with their Hamburg counterpart. The source also stated the Premier League side have to give the green light for him to return to the pitch.

Latest updates on Tottenham man’s recovery

Bild now report Luka Vušković hasn’t been part of full training this week.

Instead, he has been ‘receiving treatment’ for his bruised knee and doing individual rehab sessions in the gym.

Hamburg SV face Werder Bremen in a derby clash on Saturday and losing the defender would be a huge blow.

The former are 12th in the table [18 teams in the Bundesliga], three points ahead of 15th placed Werder Bremen.

Hamburg manager Merlin Polzin remains optimistic and considering the importance of this fixture, he’s ready to take a risk with the Tottenham Hotspur owned player.

“Luka is continuing his rehabilitation. I remain optimistic. We’ll do everything we can to make sure he’s available before we leave.” he said.

“He came back from the international matches two or three weeks ago with a few minor niggles. Even just one training session was enough for him to play a great game.”

“We’re trying everything. We’ve been able to gradually increase his workload. We’ll see how he’s doing after Friday’s training session. Given the importance of the game, we’d take a small risk. But it shouldn’t be without reason.”

Our take: Tottenham medical staff won’t be happy

Earlier this week, we relayed news Roberto De Zerbi’s side have to give their approval for Luka Vušković to return to the pitch.

Merlin Polzin’s latest comments indicate that won’t be the case and is even ready to risk the defender.

There’s a possibility of the Croatian aggravating his injury if he isn’t fully fit. Therefore, the Tottenham medical will not at all be pleased if Vušković’s rushed back from injury for tomorrow’s clash.
