Doncaster Rovers are in “advanced talks” to sign 19-year-old Tottenham Hotspur prospect Damola Ajayi.

The winger, who has a goal to his name in the UEFA Europa League, has attracted interest from a number of clubs in the EFL ahead of what would be his first loan spell.

However, it now looks clear that newly promoted Sky Bet League One side Doncaster will win the race for him.

Doncaster Rovers keen on Tottenham Hotspur youngster

As reported by Football Insider, Doncaster are in talks with Amola over a loan signing.

He made a nine-minute cameo for Spurs as they went on to win the Europa League. In that game, the youngster came on as a late substitute against Swedish side Elfsborg, and netted in front of the home Tottenham Hotspur Stadium crowd.

Over the course of his youth career, Amola has more than 80 appearances in the under-18s, under-19s, and under-21s teams for North London outfit.

The winger’s best goalscoring season to date came in 2023/24, where he found the back of the net 13 times in 22 appearances at under-18s level.

More recently, he scored three goals and notched one assist in 18 Premier League 2 games. That came alongside a goal in the EFL Trophy group stages, where he scored the third Spurs goal in a 3-3 draw, and penalty shootout win, over Bristol Rovers.

Ajayi has also been an unused substitute for a slew of Premier League games, including against Manchester United, but is now set to experience senior football elsewhere with Thomas Frank coming into Spurs as their new head coach.

Damola Ajayi potentially set for loan to League Two champion

Doncaster are building a strong squad ahead of their return to the third tier following a title-winning season, with former Wycombe Wanderers striker Brandon Hanlan one of Grant McCann’s fresh additions.

Experienced Huddersfield Town defender Matty Pearson, Dundee United wide-man Glenn Middleton, ex-Leeds United youngster Robbie Gotts, and loanee goalkeeper Thimothee Lo-Tutala have also joined the South Yorkshire club this summer with the calendar yet to tick into July.

If Ajayi does join Doncaster, he will add to a competitive area of the pitch for Rovers. New-man Middleton, 18-goal winger Luke Molyneux, Jordan Gibson, and returning loanee Kyle Hurst are already on the flanks.

It may be difficult for Ajayi to secure consistent gametime at Rovers, but he would surely develop under a manager who has a track record of loaning top Premier League talent.

McCann has seen loanees come into his team and build to the next stages of their career plenty of times, with Chelsea shot-stopper Teddy Sharman-Lowe a strong recent example.

Rovers finished last season with 84 points, but have not rested on their laurels when stepping into the third tier.
