Rangers will have to fend off European heavyweights Borussia Dortmund if they’re to pursue Tottenham winger Mikey Moore in the transfer window.
The 18-year old impressed at Ibrox last season during his loan spell, registering 10 goal contributions in 47 appearances. His performances were recognised by PFA Scotland as he won the Young Player of the Year award for the season. Moore returned to north London at the end of May, however Rangers reportedly haven’t given up hope of signing him permanently, however new Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi would prefer to loan him out again.
Dortmund are looking to get back on track after their fifth successive trophy-less campaign last season. The German giants wanted to sign Moore before he signed his first professional contract with Spurs and have been keeping tabs on him ever since. Bundesliga rivals FC Koln have also expressed an interest, along with Dutch Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven.
Rangers face stiff competition for transfer target
According to Football Insider: “Borussia Dortmund are among three clubs interested in a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur Mikey Moore this summer. The German giants, who wanted to sign the 18-year-old before he committed to professional terms with Spurs, remain keen on him, while FC Koln are monitoring his situation. PSV Eindhoven are also interested in a move for the winger, but want to add an option to buy into the deal.”
It’s already been a busy transfer window for the Lilywhites, who narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier League last season after an underwhelming campaign. They’ve already spent over £230m on Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul Van Hecke this summer and have also enlisted Scotland captain Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka on free transfers.
What’s next for Mikey Moore?
While none of Spurs’ new additions so far are wingers, Moore still has Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert to contend with if he’s to fight for his place in the starting XI, as well as returning injured Swedish international Dejan Kulusevski who proved to be a huge miss for them last season. It is perhaps for this reason that De Zerbi is happy to farm him out another year.
New Rangers boss Derek McInnes has been busy in the transfer window during his first fortnight in charge, but is also yet to sign any wingers. The Light Blues currently have Djeidi Gassama, Oliver Antman, Findlay Curtis and Ross McCausland on their books going into next season. Former boss Danny Rohl claimed he was going to do everything in his power to re-sign Moore, but it’s yet to be discovered whether the new gaffer shares this opinion.
