Tottenham could make a move to sign a player they made major headlines trying to complete a deal for last summer, according to reports.

According to the Independent's Miguel Delaney, Spurs are set to revive their interest in signing Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, 12 months on from coming close to completing a deal for the England star.

Tottenham are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, with owners the Lewis Family committing to backing head coach Roberto De Zerbi as he looks to transform Spurs' fortunes following back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League.

Two free transfers are already in place

Spurs avoided relegation to the Championship by the skin of their teeth on the final day of the season, by beating Everton 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - only their third home win of a dismal season.

And now plans are already underway to improve De Zerbi's squad, with agreements in place to sign Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth and Andy Robertson from Liverpool following the expiration of their contracts.

And there are links with a number of other signings too, with Gibbs-White back in the frame.

Spurs tried to sign the 26-year-old last summer and thought they had activated his £60million release clause to complete a deal.

However, Nottingham Forest shut down all communication with the north Londoners, believing Spurs had learned of the relase clause that was supposed to have been confidential and threatened legal action against the club.

After all the controversy around the deal, Gibbs-White went on to sign a new contract at the City Ground instead.

Gibbs-White was left out of Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico this summer, and after helping Forest avoid relegation, his name is back in the crosshairs for a transfer this summer.

Tottenham could get a deal done for a similar price to last summer

According to Delaney, Spurs have revived their interest in the attacking midfielder, who could be available for a similar £60million fee this summer.

In a statement this week, the Lewis Family said: "We take responsibility for rebuilding Spurs. Our ambition is to recapture the spirit of the club and bring back the excitement, the fearlessness and the bold football we have always felt defined us. That means football comes first. The board and executive team have laid out their plans to meet this ambition.

"This will require investment – in our teams, the academy, our backroom functions and more - and we are fully committed to this. We are not selling the club. We are all in. We are investing in it. You will see more of this in the coming months."
