This is a Tottenham predicted lineup for their Premier League clash with Aston Villa. This is one of two Friday night outings featuring the Europa League finalists who will have five days to rest for the final. With that in mind and based on recent matches, Ange Postecoglou is likely to phone this one in and play a largely second-string side to protect his key starters for the more important European tie.

How Tottenham Have Lined Up Recently

Guglielmo Vicario has been the starter in goal whenever fit. In defence, the preferred starting unit is definitely Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Pedro Porro, and Destiny Udogie. The four are capable of playing with the necessary physicality and pace in the system’s high line. When those four need a rest, an out of position Archie Gray comes in alongside Kavin Danso, Ben Davies, and Djed Spence.

Similar rotations are made in midfield with Rodrigo Bentacur, Yves Bissouma, and one of James Maddison or Dejan Kulusevski being preferred but Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Pape Sarr have also been used there to rest starters.

Up front, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert, and Mathys Tel have been the main starters. Kulusevski filled in as an added body against Crystal Palace, a match where Heung-min Son also made his return from the bench.

Tottenham Recent Form & Tactics

Postcoglou has been resilient in his use of the 4-3-3 setup with a brief shift to a 4-2-3-1 being an absolute rarity against Bodo/Glimt. The idea is to press high, play with a high line, and overwhelm the other team with wingers, attacking full-backs, and three midfielders occupying attention when on the ball, this does leave the team prone to counters however.

Results in the league have been truly abysmal with both the players and manager seeming uninterested in the competition. The Lilwhites have collected just 14 points since January 1, putting them as the fourth worst in the league form-wise. They have managed to keep things together in Europe and made it to the final of the Europa League, although it could be argued they had a very easy run outside of the Eintracht Frankfurt tie.

Tottenham Injuries to Consider

According to PremierInjuries, there are a number of injuries for Postecoglou to work around. Kulsevski is the newest concern with him now ruled out for the season. He joins Radu Dragusin, James Maddison, Timo Werner, and Lucas Bergvall on the sidelines.
