Tottenham Defender Set to Stay Amid Liverpool and Barcelona Interest - Last Word On Sports
Description

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven looks set to remain in North London this summer despite reported interest from Liverpool and Barcelona, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Dutch international has established himself as one of Spurs’ most important players since arriving in 2023, with Romano reporting that the club have no intention of allowing him to leave.

Van de Ven is currently representing the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup alongside new Tottenham signing Jan Paul van Hecke after captaining Spurs during the closing stages of the 2025/26 campaign.

Tottenham Defender Set to Stay Despite Transfer Interest

Van de Ven Remains Central to Tottenham’s Plans

The 25-year-old has made 96 appearances for Tottenham since joining from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023, quickly becoming one of the club’s most important players.

Despite injury setbacks during his first two seasons in north London, Van de Ven featured 45 times in all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign and contributed seven goals, including a memorable solo strike against FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League.

He is set to form part of a refreshed defence this season alongside fellow summer arrivals van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson as De Zerbi reshapes Tottenham’s back line.

Liverpool and Barcelona Linked With Move

Van de Ven has attracted significant interest following another impressive campaign.

Liverpool have been widely linked with the Netherlands international and Tottenham defender as they prepare for the possible departure of Ibrahima Konaté, while Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in strengthening their defence.

However, with Van de Ven still under contract for another three years and Romano reporting that Tottenham view him as untouchable this summer, any potential move appears highly unlikely.

A Key Figure in De Zerbi’s Rebuild

Van de Ven played an important role in Tottenham securing Premier League survival, captaining the side during Cristian Romero’s absence and playing every minute under De Zerbi following the Italian’s arrival.

Romano’s latest update reinforces Tottenham’s desire to build around the Dutch defender rather than entertain offers, mirroring the club’s stance on Pedro Porro, who recently agreed a new long-term contract.

Keeping Van de Ven would represent another significant boost for De Zerbi as he continues rebuilding a defence that has conceded 183 Premier League goals across the past three seasons.

With several new additions arriving this summer, the Dutchman is expected to remain one of the foundations of Tottenham’s long-term project.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to make one of the biggest moves of the summer, with Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali reportedly open to a big Tottenham move and joining Roberto De Zerbi’s side, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano reports that the Italian international has emerged as one of De Zerbi’s priority midfield targets as Spurs continue their rebuild following successive 17th-placed Premier League finishes.

Tottenham are not alone in their interest, however, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United all reportedly monitoring the situation.

Spurs Transfer Pursuit of Sandro Tonali: Star Keen on Big Tottenham Move

Tonali Open to Big Tottenham Move

Tottenham are preparing an ambitious move for Tonali, with David Ornstein reporting that agreeing a fee with Newcastle is likely to prove a bigger obstacle than convincing the player to make the switch.

The 26-year-old has three years remaining on his current Newcastle contract, with the club also holding the option to extend the deal by a further year. He joined the Magpies from Italian giants AC Milan in 2023 for £55 million.

Ornstein also reports that there has been no club-to-club contact between Tottenham and Newcastle at this stage. However, Spurs are understood to view Tonali as a statement signing, with De Zerbi personally keen to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new campaign.

Tonali’s Career to Date

Tonali came through the academy at Brescia before completing a move to AC Milan in 2020, where he developed into one of Europe’s most highly regarded midfielders.

The Italian made 130 appearances for the Rossoneri before joining Newcastle in the summer of 2023.

Despite serving a 10-month suspension for breaches of the FA’s betting regulations between October 2023 and August 2024, Tonali quickly established himself as a fan favourite on Tyneside. Since returning, he has helped Newcastle win the Carabao Cup and compete in the UEFA Champions League.

The midfielder has now made 110 appearances for Newcastle, scoring ten goals. During the 2025/26 campaign, he featured 53 times across all competitions, contributing ten goal involvements while operating primarily as a defensive midfielder.

Could a big Tottenham move be next for the Italian?

Internationally, Tonali has earned 32 caps for Italy and is a regular within the national team setup.

Interest From Elsewhere

Tottenham face significant competition for Tonali’s signature, as Romano has previously reported that Manchester City are monitoring the midfielder should they fail to complete a move for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

Arsenal are also believed to retain an interest, while Manchester United have long admired the Italian, although neither club is currently considered as advanced as Spurs in their pursuit.

Romano has also stated that Tonali would prefer to remain in England, making a Premier League move the most likely outcome should he leave Newcastle this summer.

Tottenham’s Midfield Needs

Midfield has remained a priority area for Tottenham in recent transfer windows, with the arrivals of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, João Palhinha and Conor Gallagher since 2024 all aimed at strengthening the centre of the pitch.

Spurs have already confirmed the departure of Yves Bissouma this summer, while Palhinha’s loan from Bayern Munich has expired, with no decision yet made over a permanent transfer.

That leaves Tottenham looking for further reinforcement in midfield, with Romano reporting that De Zerbi views Tonali as one of his priority targets to lead the club’s rebuild.

Should Spurs succeed in convincing Newcastle to sell, the signing would represent a big statement of intent from the ownership and significantly strengthen a midfield that has undergone major change in recent seasons.

Pedro Porro: Future Plans Made Clear by Roberto De Zerbi - Last Word On Sports
Description

Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has been labelled ‘untouchable’ amid ongoing Tottenham contract talks, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Spanish full-back has become a key figure in north London in recent seasons, with Spurs now believed to be close to agreeing a new long-term deal ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Porro is currently away representing Spain at the FIFA World Cup and has two years remaining on his existing Spurs deal, with the club keen to secure his future amid growing external interest.

Tottenham Contract Update on Key Defender

Contract Talks Over Pedro Porro Continue

The 26-year-old joined Spurs in January 2023 under Antonio Conte and has since made 152 appearances, scoring 13 goals and registering 26 assists, establishing himself as one of the most productive attacking full-backs in Europe.

Porro has remained a regular starter under multiple managers following his £39.7 million move from Sporting CP, where he impressed under former Manchester United boss Rúben Amorim.

The right-back is also a Spain international, earning 18 caps since making his debut in 2021.

Interest From Manchester City

After another consistent season in north London, where Porro registered eight goal contributions in 47 appearances, interest has re-emerged from Manchester City.

Porro was previously signed by City from Girona in 2019 but never made a competitive appearance, instead spending time on loan at Real Valladolid and Sporting CP before making his move permanent.

Reports from The Athletic suggest City are targeting a specialist right-back, with Porro among the names being monitored.

However, with Spurs closing in on a new contract agreement, a return to Manchester now appears increasingly unlikely.

Rumours From Abroad

Alongside Manchester City, Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that Real Madrid had also monitored Porro as they explored right-back options following Dani Carvajal’s departure.

Despite this, the Spanish giants have since moved towards Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, reducing the likelihood of any future approach for Porro.

A Key Player for Spurs

Porro remains highly valued on the white side of North London, with Roberto De Zerbi already trusting him with a key role since his arrival, having played every minute of the Italian’s tenure so far.

With a new Tottenham contract reportedly close, the Spaniard is expected to remain a central figure in Spurs’ plans for years to come, particularly as De Zerbi looks to improve on successive 17th-placed league finishes.

Further discussions are expected to continue after the FIFA World Cup, as De Zerbi’s men aim to finalise terms during the summer window.

Although several departures are expected at Tottenham this summer, as reported by Alasdair Gold, Porro is not among those considered for an exit as Spurs look to secure his long-term future.

‘Most Coveted’ Tottenham Man Favours Exit as Bid Comes In - Last Word On Sports
Description

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Luka Vušković is the subject of a reported £30 million bid from Brighton & Hove Albion, according to David Ornstein. The centre-back reportedly prefers the project offered by the Seagulls in favor of guaranteed game time

The Croatian defender is yet to make a competitive appearance for Spurs, but his outstanding loan spell with Bundesliga side Hamburger SV has attracted significant interest ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The reported Brighton bid is particularly intriguing given Tottenham’s interest in Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke, with Spurs having seen multiple offers rejected in recent weeks.

Brighton Bid Submitted for 19-Year-Old Defender

Tottenham Career So Far

Vušković agreed to join the Lilywhites from Croatian side Hajduk Split in 2023, with the transfer officially completed in the summer of 2025. Deemed by Ornstein as one of the “most coveted” in his position, the player is attracting interest.

The 19-year-old impressed during his first pre-season with the club, registering a goal and an assist in a 2-0 victory over Reading before being included in the matchday squad for the UEFA Super Cup and Tottenham’s opening two Premier League fixtures.

He was then sent on loan to Hamburger SV for the 2025/26 season to gain regular first-team football. Vušković enjoyed an outstanding campaign in the Bundesliga, making 28 league appearances and scoring six goals while playing alongside his older brother, Mario.

His performances earned him a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season, while he was also named Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for both September and October.

The Croatian finished the campaign with the highest duel success rate in the Bundesliga at 69.1%. He also became the first player to win 18 aerial duels in a match across Europe’s major leagues in five years during Hamburger SV’s meeting with Union Berlin.

International Recognition

After progressing through Croatia’s youth sides, Vušković has continued his development on the international stage, already earning five senior caps.

He made his debut against the Czech Republic in June 2025 before scoring his first international goal against Colombia in March 2026.

The teenager has also been called up for Croatia’s squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup. Drawn in Group L alongside England, Ghana and Panama, the tournament offers Vušković a big opportunity to showcase his talent on the biggest stage.

Interest in the centre-back continues to grow, although it remains unclear whether Tottenham would be willing to consider offers for one of Europe’s brightest young defenders before he has worked under Roberto De Zerbi.

It has already been a busy summer in North London following the arrivals of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, while the club continue to be linked with van Hecke and Manchester City winger Savinho.

Meanwhile, Alasdair Gold has reported that as many as 17 players could leave Spurs this summer, with Yves Bissouma already departing and Alejo Veliz closing in on a permanent move to Brazilian side Bahia.

Vušković was not among those expected to leave, but Brighton’s reported £30 million bid represents a significant test of Tottenham’s resolve ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur Attacker Close to Finalising Summer Exit

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete their first outgoing deal of the summer transfer window, with Alejo Veliz’s transfer to Brazilian side Bahia nearing completion, as reported by Alasdair Gold.

The striker has travelled to Brazil to finalise the deal with the Brazilian Série A club, who are part of the City Football Group network.

The move will bring an end to his three-year spell in North London, during which he made eight senior appearances and scored once.

Tottenham Hotspur: Alejo Veliz Transfer Nears After Bahia Agreement

Alejo Veliz Transfer Close to Completion

Veliz joined Tottenham Hotspur from Rosario Central for a fee of £13 million during Ange Postecoglou’s first summer in charge ahead of the 2023/24 season, but struggled for first-team opportunities in England.

The 22-year-old made eight senior appearances for the club, all from the bench, with his only goal coming in a 4–2 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion in December 2023.

Loan spells followed in Spain with Sevilla and Espanyol, where he gained more regular minutes, scoring four goals in 29 appearances during his time at Espanyol.

A return to Rosario Central for the 2025/26 campaign saw him register six goals in 24 matches, but it became increasingly clear he was not part of the long-term plans in North London.

Bahia Deal Agreed

An agreement with Bahia was reached earlier in 2026 but took time to finalise due to Veliz remaining on loan in Argentina.

The deal is reported to be worth £7.8 million, plus £871,000 in add-ons and a 20 percent sell-on clause, ensuring Spurs retain a future financial interest in the player.

Veliz is now in Brazil to complete the formalities of the move, with Bahia currently competing in Brazil’s top division and sitting in 7th at the mid-season interval ahead of the World Cup break.

The Brazilian side are a part of the City Football Group, a collection of clubs owned by Abu Dhabi United Group, Silver Lake, and China Media Capital/CITIC Capital, and joined the network in 2023.

Despite still having three years remaining on his Spurs contract, the club have opted to sanction a permanent exit.

What the Sale Means for Tottenham

Veliz’s departure frees up space in the attacking department as Spurs continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new season under Roberto De Zerbi.

Although he was not expected to play a major role moving forward, the deal allows the club to recoup a fee and maintain a sell-on clause for the future.

It also represents a clean break for the striker, who struggled for consistency during his time in Europe and is now seeking a fresh start in South America.

Five Tottenham Hotspur Youngsters Looking To Impress Roberto De Zerbi This Pre-Season - Last Word On Sports
Description

Five Tottenham Hotspur youngsters will be eager to impress Roberto De Zerbi ahead of the 2026/27 season, with several prospects looking forward to showcasing their abilities during pre-season.

With a number of Tottenham’s most promising young players having spent the 2025/26 campaign out on loan, pre-season provides a valuable opportunity to step into the first-team environment and make an impression on De Zerbi. It also offers a chance for emerging talent to demonstrate their development in both training and match situations ahead of the new campaign.

Here are five Tottenham youngsters to watch during pre-season preparations.

Tottenham Hotspur Youngsters to Watch In Pre-Season

Luka Vušković

Luka Vušković is one of the most highly regarded Tottenham Hotspur youngsters heading into the 2026/27 campaign, with expectations continuing to grow following a breakthrough loan spell in Germany with Hamburger SV.

The Croatian centre-back agreed a move to Tottenham in 2023, with the transfer becoming official in the summer of 2025, although he is yet to make a competitive appearance for the club. Vušković did feature in pre-season, registering a goal and assist in a 2-0 win over Reading, before being sent out on loan for further development.

His spell in Germany proved highly successful, with the 19-year-old scoring six goals in 28 appearances and earning a place in the division’s Team of the Season. Now returning to Tottenham’s long-term plans, Vušković stands out among the group of youngsters who could catch the eye of De Zerbi during pre-season, with supporters eager to see how he continues to develop.

Mikey Moore

Mikey Moore is widely regarded as one of the most exciting Tottenham Hotspur youngsters emerging from the club’s academy system, having already made over 20 first-team appearances despite still being only 18 years of age.

The winger progressed rapidly through Tottenham’s youth ranks before making his senior debut in the 2023/24 season, becoming the club’s youngest Premier League player in the process. He also featured during Spurs’ Europa League-winning campaign in 2024/25, making five appearances and scoring once on their route to lifting the trophy.

Moore spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Rangers, where he gained regular senior experience across domestic and European competitions. He registered 11 goal contributions in 47 appearances and was named PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year following an impressive campaign.

Now returning to Tottenham, Moore is expected to be closely monitored during pre-season, with De Zerbi likely to assess how the winger fits into his plans for the 2026/27 season.

Will Lankshear

Will Lankshear is another of the Tottenham Hotspur youngsters returning to the club following a productive loan spell in the Championship, with the striker continuing his development after gaining valuable senior experience at Oxford United.

The 21-year-old progressed through Spurs’ academy ranks before making six first-team appearances during the 2024/25 season, where he also scored his first goal for the club away to Galatasaray in the Europa League. Subsequent loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Oxford United have provided Lankshear with regular first-team football in the EFL.

Lankshear was a regular for Oxford, finishing as top scorer with 12 goals and winning Young Player of the Season, despite suffering relegation from the Championship. Now returning to Tottenham with a full campaign of senior football behind him, Lankshear represents one of the Tottenham youngsters who could be assessed closely by De Zerbi during pre-season, particularly as he looks to strengthen attacking options ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Souza

Souza is one of the newer Tottenham Hotspur youngsters to arrive at the club, having joined from Brazilian side Santos as part of Spurs’ recruitment of emerging international talent.

The 19-year-old left-back developed through Santos’ academy, with his performances in Brazil prompting Tottenham to complete a move in January 2026. Souza went on to make four senior appearances during the second half of the 2025/26 season.

While primarily a traditional left-back, the Brazilian has already demonstrated his versatility, featuring in multiple positions including right wing during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw away to Liverpool under Igor Tudor. Those appearances have given him valuable exposure at Premier League level despite his limited time in England.

Now continuing his adaptation to English football, Souza is one of the Tottenham youngsters who could benefit from pre-season under De Zerbi, offering an opportunity to further assess his development, particularly with increased competition for places following the arrival of Andy Robertson in the summer of 2026.

Lucá Williams-Barnett

Lucá Williams-Barnett is one of the most highly rated prospects in Tottenham’s academy system, with the 17-year-old already edging towards senior involvement despite still being at an early stage of his career.

The forward caught the eye by producing outstanding numbers for Tottnham’s U18 side with 37 goal contributions in 32 appearances, aged just 16. He continued his development across PL2 and UEFA Youth League fixtures during the 2025/26 season, scoring 16 goals in 19 appearances while also making his first-team debut in a Carabao Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers.

Williams-Barnett’s progress was briefly halted by injury towards the end of the campaign, but he remains highly regarded within the club’s academy structure. Now returning to full fitness, pre-season is an important opportunity for the young attacker to impress De Zerbi and potentially strengthen his case for further involvement with the Tottenham first team.

Marcos Senesi to Tottenham: '100% Confirmed'

Marcos Senesi to Tottenham Hotspur ‘100% Confirmed’ - Last Word On Sports
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have been busy in the transfer market, and are set to complete their second signing of the summer in AFC Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi. On Saturday evening, Fabrizio Romano reported that Senesi to Tottenham was “100% confirmed.” The defender will join Spurs at the end of his Cherries contract on July 1.

Transfer Update: Marcos Senesi to Tottenham

What Senesi Brings to Tottenham

Marcos Senesi stood out as one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-backs during the 2025/26 campaign. Following his arrival in England in 2022 from Feyenoord, Senesi delivered consistent performances for four seasons at the heart of the Bournemouth backline. On May 15, he announced that he would depart the Cherries at the end of his contract. Amid interest from a host of top clubs, Spurs seem to have convinced Senesi to make the move to north London.

Roberto De Zerbi appears to have found a well-suited defender for his demands. De Zerbi’s teams have established a reputation for playing out from the back, and his system heavily relies on centre-backs who are comfortable on the ball. Senesi excels in that regard. The Argentinian ranked third and fifth in accurate long balls per 90 and total passes respectively in the Premier League this season.

Tottenham’s Wider Transfer Plans

Senesi further illustrates the ongoing rebuild of De Zerbi’s squad. Andy Robertson’s signing and the reported bid for Jan Paul van Hecke display a sense of urgency to reinforce a squad who struggled with injuries and poor form throughout 2025/26. The arrival of experienced players who fit De Zerbi’s tactical demands indicates a long-term commitment to a manager who signed a five-year contract in March.

The move also suggests that Senesi’s countryman and Spurs’ captain, Cristian Romero, could be set to depart this summer. His near-absence from the relegation decider against Everton caused sections of the fanbase to question his commitment to the club. Long-standing interest in the World Cup winner has been reported, and his potential departure would pave the way for the new era.

Another Smart Signing for Spurs

Tottenham recruited Andy Robertson on a free transfer this week, and Senesi’s imminent arrival represents another shrewd manoeuvre by the club. Spurs suffered greatly with injuries throughout the season, so adding depth to the squad seemed a necessity. Yet Senesi is likely to feature heavily, given the quality he demonstrated throughout his time at the Vitality Stadium. In a short period, the north Londoners have signed two quality and experienced players without a transfer fee.

Jan Paul van Hecke: Spurs Make Their Move for 'Incredible' Defender

Jan Paul van Hecke: Spurs Make Their Move for 'Incredible' Defender - Last Word On Sports
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to sign Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke. David Ornstein reported on Thursday morning that Spurs had made an opening bid for the Dutchman, which was rejected. Van Hecke has one year remaining on his contract and is believed to be valued between £60 million and £70 million by Brighton.

Talks Ongoing in Jan Paul van Hecke to Tottenham Deal

Why Tottenham are interested in Van Hecke

Since signing for Brighton from NAC Breda for £1.8 million in 2020, Van Hecke has gradually become an integral part of the defence. Following two loan spells with Heerenveen and Blackburn Rovers, the defender has clocked up 131 appearances on the South Coast. Voted as Brighton’s Player of the Year in 2024/25, Van Hecke followed that up with an equally strong campaign this year.

What stands out is the Dutchman’s passing ability. Spurs’ interest appears to be driven by a desire to improve their build-up from deep. Tottenham’s struggles to play out from the back were well documented last season. Meanwhile, Roberto De Zerbi prioritises the ability to play through a press. Van Hecke ranked in the Premier League’s top five for passes completed and progressive passes per 90 in 2025/26. AFC Bournemouth’s Marco Senesi demonstrated similar passing competence, and Spurs’ links to him highlight a theme in De Zerbi’s recruitment.

Tottenham’s Current Defender Situation

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has been an automatic selection at centre-back when fit throughout his time in north London. However, rumoured interest abroad, discipline issues and recent controversy surrounding his commitment to the club have created a sense of inevitability around his departure this summer. Luka Vuskovic’s role next season also remains unclear, potentially creating further space in Tottenham’s centre-back plans.

Marco Senesi’s potential arrival means Van Hecke would be battling the Argentinian to partner Micky van de Ven at the heart of De Zerbi’s defence. Yet it was under the Italian that Van Hecke initially blossomed at Brighton, meaning he would require little adaptation to the manager’s intense demands.

How Close is Jan Paul van Hecke to Tottenham?

Van Hecke, previously described as “incredible” is currently preparing for the FIFA World Cup with the Netherlands alongside Van de Ven, which could slow negotiations. However, while Tottenham’s opening bid may have been short of Brighton’s valuation, they are unlikely to be deterred. The Athletic previously reported that Van Hecke showed no interest in extending his current deal with the Seagulls, meaning a move this summer is likely Brighton’s only chance to maximise his transfer value.

Tottenham vs Everton Confirmed Lineups for Final Day Decider - Last Word On Sports
Description

Here is the latest team news and confirmed lineups as Tottenham Hotspur host Everton this afternoon on the Premier League’s final day. Tottenham vs Everton will be a defining contest for the hosts. A defeat combined with a West Ham United victory against Leeds United would see Spurs relegated. The task is clear for De Zerbi’s side. Their superior goal difference means a draw would effectively secure survival. However, they were unable to deliver that against Chelsea on Tuesday and remain without a home league victory since December. Now, with no alternative, Spurs must deliver a result to avoid a first relegation since 1977.

The visitors have their own objective. With eighth-placed Chelsea just about in reach, a win could still mean European qualification. While it would require favourable results and a significant swing in goal difference, David Moyes’ team will be motivated by the opportunity. The Toffees’ form has slumped in recent weeks, with last week’s 3–1 defeat to Sunderland making it seven matches without a win. A victory today would not only help Moyes’ former club, West Ham, but also restore optimism for next season.

Below are the confirmed lineups for Tottenham vs Everton.

Dominic Solanke appears set for a return. Speaking at his press conference, Roberto De Zerbi confirmed: “Solanke is available for tomorrow. We have to decide if he starts or not.”

No players are suspended for Everton.

Having missed the last three games due to injury, Idrissa Gana Gueye could return. Speaking at Friday’s press conference, David Moyes said: “Gueye has been back on the grass. I’d say there’s probably a 50-50 chance he could be involved. We’ll know a bit more once we’ve trained and seen him over the next couple of days.”

However, Jarrad Branthwaite will not be involved. Moyes provided an update on the defender’s recovery: “Jarrad is making good progress, which you would expect, and he’s moving on. Jarrad has got a programme through the summer.”

Jack Grealish also remains sidelined, and the manager explained: “We’ve looked after Jack since his injury and his injury is coming on. He had quite a bad break in his foot, which has been pinned and it’s looking in good order now.”

Injured: Grealish and Branthwaite.
