Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly put a huge offer on the table for 17-year-old EFL starlet Chris Rigg, with the North London club determined to win the race for the player ahead of their Premier League rivals.
Some eyebrows were raised when Tottenham paid a big fee for Archie Gray last summer, making him the fourth most expensive 18-year-old of all time.
Many saw it as a gamble to spend such a huge figure on a player who had just a year of Championship football under his belt, but the signing now seems an inspired move, given the way the Leeds academy graduate has hit the ground running in N17.
Now, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to repeat the trick by dropping another huge sum on a Championship midfielder.
Spurs have made a sizable offer for Sunderland midfielder
Fichajes have now claimed that Tottenham are big fans of Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg and have set their sights on bringing him to N17 this season.
In fact, it is asserted that Spurs have put an offer of €45m (£37m) on the table already for the 17-year-old even though we are still a distance away from the summer window.
The reason the Lilywhites have moved so swiftly and have made such a large offer is that they want to get ahead of their Premier League rivals in the race for Rigg’s signature, with Tottenham aware that an increasing number of top-flight clubs are now eying the teenager.

As things stand, Ange Postecoglou’s men are said to be ‘leading the way’ to land the attacking midfielder.
Fichajes point out that Tottenham want to make reinforcements in the middle of the park this summer and they have been extremely impressed with the way the Black Cats academy graduate has progressed.
They believe that Rigg is now ready to make the leap to a top-flight club and they are ready to pay a premium for the youngster.
The publication adds that Spurs are aiming to close a deal for the England Under-19 international ‘as soon as possible’ as they believe they can help the teenager develop into a top player.
