Tottenham are believed to be eyeing a move to sign Man City goalkeeper James Trafford in the summer transfer window, but another club are believed to be leading the race, according to reports.
Spurs are likely to be in the market for a new goalkeeper later this year for multiple reasons, with one of those being that Guglielmo Vicario has a strong chance of leaving the club to join Italian outfit Inter Milan.
Another reason could be that Roberto De Zerbi was recently appointed as manager, and the former Brighton boss requires his goalkeeper to be heavily involved in the build-up, something Vicario has often struggled with.
Vicario has been a key player for Spurs this season, even if he has endured difficulties, and he's been the number one for both Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.
Tottenham Eyeing Man City Star
According to reports, Tottenham are ready to enter the race to sign Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford in the summer transfer window.
The report also claims that Vicario is expected to leave the club later this year, meaning Spurs are in the market for a potential replacement.
Trafford, described as 'world-class' by Burnley manager Scott Parker, has endured a difficult time at Man City this season, with Pep Guardiola's side signing Gianluigi Donnarumma shortly after he arrived at the Etihad Stadium.
Newcastle are believed to be the frontrunners to secure the signature of Trafford during the summer window, and it remains to be seen how keen he would be on a move to north London at this stage of his career.
Trafford a Vicario Upgrade
Trafford would be an upgrade on Vicario, and he would also be more suited to playing the style that Roberto De Zerbi will want to implement.
The English star shouldn't be judged on his lack of appearances at Manchester City this season, as he's been incredibly unfortunate that Donnarumma was brought to the club.
Trafford would undoubtedly come straight to Spurs and become their number one goalkeeper, and he'd likely be an improvement on what we've seen from Vicario this season.
It might not be easy to get a deal over the line, but if Spurs can offer him regular minutes, the race could become interesting.
