Tottenham Hotspur are rivaling Liverpool in the race for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed.
The North London side are reportedly keen on signing the Ivory Coast winger this month and would be prepared to make a ‘big offer’ for Diomande if the opportunity arises.
Liverpool are believed to be long-term admirers of the forward, but any transfer move from the Anfield side is unlikely to materialise in January.
Nixon claims Diomande could be available for as little as £40m this month, despite initial reports suggesting Leipzig value the winger at around £87m (€100m).
Tottenham Ready to Bid for Yan Diomande
According to Nixon, while Liverpool see Diomande as a target for the future, there is a chance Tottenham could step up their interest in the forward as soon as this month.
The North London side are looking to splash out in the January window following a disappointing first part of the season under Thomas Frank, with just seven wins in 21 league games.
Spurs are close to announcing the signings of left-back Souza and former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who is undergoing a medical today.
Diomande only joined Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes before the season and has enjoyed an impressive first few months in the Bundesliga.
The ‘outrageous’ Ivorian winger has scored six goals and provided three assists in 14 league appearances, while also adding another two goal contributions in the German Cup.
Tottenham brokered a deal with Leipzig in the summer transfer window, when they signed Xavi Simons in a £51m deal.
Why Diomande Would Make Sense for Spurs
Tottenham’s reported interest in Diomande is hardly surprising, given how depleted Frank’s attacking options have been due to injuries this season.
Spurs have been without Dejan Kulusevski and have barely used Dominic Solanke this campaign, while the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Bergvall have also missed games recently.
Richarlison became Tottenham’s latest injury worry after he was forced off in their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup with a hamstring issue.
James Maddison and Destiny Udogie have also been dealing with setbacks this campaign, while midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is set to miss three months with a hamstring issue.
Tottenham Receive Approach for Mathys Tel
Spurs have received an approach from Ligue 1 side Paris FC for winger Mathys Tel but want the forward to stay amid injuries to key players.
