Tottenham Hotspur have received some good news regarding their captain Cristian Romero ahead of their final seven league games of the season as they fight to preserve their Premier League status.

Spurs’ 3-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest came as a bitter blow to the Lilywhites’ hopes of avoiding relegation, and it has left the club just a point off the drop zone.

However, there was one silver lining to come out of the bruising defeat, which could end up being crucial for the club in the final stretch.

Cristian Romero was labelled a ‘disgrace’ for his poor display against Forest, but he did manage to avoid one big blow last Sunday.

Cristian Romero has escaped another Tottenham suspension

The Premier League rules state that players who pick up 10 bookings up to and including their side’s 32nd fixture will serve a two-match suspension in the competition.

Romero is currently on eight yellows, and the clash against Forest was Tottenham’s 31st in their league campaign.

The Spurs captain managed to avoid a booking in the fixture, which means that he cannot be suspended for accumulating 10 yellow cards even if he gets into the referee’s notebook against Sunderland on April 12.

Barring injuries or another red card, Tottenham will be able to call on the Argentine’s services for the final seven matches.

Romero is determined to guide Spurs to safety

Romero has been criticised for not stepping up as a leader for Tottenham amidst their crisis situation this season.

Following the defeat to Forest, the Spurs captain promised the fans that he will give his 200 per cent in the remaining seven games as the club desperately try to avoid going down for the first time in 48 years.
