Former Rangers loanee Mikey Moore could be on his way to German side FC Koln, as they enter ‘advanced talks’ with Tottenham Hotspur over their winger.
After a successful short-term spell at Ibrox last season, the 18-year old had been linked with a move back to Ibrox this summer. Previous boss Danny Rohl had claimed he’d do ‘everything’ in his power to facilitate Moore’s return, however with clubs now ahead of Rangers in negotiations, another move is becoming increasingly unlikely. The England youth international bagged eight goals and three assists during his 46 Rangers appearances last season.
Moore is currently in Australia with Tottenham after manager Roberto De Zerbi selected him in his 36-man squad for their Oceania pre-season tour. He’s featured for Spurs in several pre-season matches so far, but transfer speculations continues to leave his future in North London uncertain. He is under contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until June 2030.
FC Koln pursue Rangers target
According to prominent transfer guru Fabrizio Romano: “FC Köln send official bid to sign Mikey Moore on loan from Tottenham! Negotiations at advanced stages with THFC as deal could be completed next week with Moore open to the move. Several clubs keen but Köln now clear favourites.”
Moore has made no secret that his eventual ambition is to play in the Premier League. Before his move to Ibrox, he had already notched 12 appearances in the English top flight before his 18th birthday and was also part of the Spurs squad that won the Europa League under former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou. While a move to Koln wouldn’t necessarily align with his plans, regular football in one of Europe’s top five leagues can only aid his development.
Having given him a chance in pre-season, De Zerbi was keen to see what Moore could do, but with the club also targeting multiple wingers in the transfer market, there may be little room left for the teenager. After flirting with relegation last season, Spurs are going all-out for the upcoming campaign, having already spent upwards of £230m.
Moore on PL ambitions
Speaking to his current club after their 1-0 friendly win over MK Dons last month, the winger said the Premier League is where he wants to be. In a post-match interview, he claimed: “I think I've tried my best to come back in the best possible way I can to make a good account of myself. Now it's just about trying to show a good 45 minutes. Obviously, I’ll need try and get some minutes again going forward and I need to show what I can do.
“To compete in the Premier League - where I want to play football, you need to be physically right. You need to be as good as all the other boys in the league because it's such a physically demanding league. It's something I've had to work hard on over the summer but I'm feeling good in myself and need to show technically as well that I'm at a good level.”
