Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly receiving phone calls ‘every day’ from Koln for former Rangers winger Mikey Moore as the Bundesliga side pursue a loan move.
The 19-year old’s future remains uncertain in North London despite playing a part in pre-season and their domestic openers. Koln have expressed keen interest in a short-term deal alongside German rivals Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg, as well as EFL Championship side Middlesbrough.
Moore has made no secret that his ultimate ambition is to play in the Premier League, but given Tottenham’s recent transfer movement, it remains unclear whether he’ll be part of the first team picture. The Lilywhites recently completed the signing of Manchester City wide man Savinho for £85m. When fit, the Brazilian is likely to take Moore’s place on the flank.
Koln phoning Spurs ‘every day’ for Moore
Time is running out for the mid-table German side if they want the Englishman as the window for them closes on Monday at 7:00pm (BST). According to Football Insider, Koln are frantically contacting Spurs in their pursuit of Moore.
They claim: “FC Koln are “ringing every day” to persuade Tottenham Hotspur to agree a deal for Mikey Moore before the cut-off. The Bundesliga club are currently working on a loan deal for the 19-year-old winger. However, Koln now appear to be the frontrunners ahead of transfer deadline day.”
Moore was benched for Tottenham’s home fixture against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon, but played a part in their midweek EFL Cup victory over Charlton Athletic - where he registered a goal and an assist. The teenager also featured in their Premier League opener against Brentford last week.
Moore on Premier League ambition
Moore won the SPFL Premiership’s Young Player of the Year award last season at Ibrox after scoring six goals and registering two assists. While his attacking numbers were fairly modest, his direct dribbling ability and tricky wing play earned him fan favourite status among the Ibrox faithful. He also notably was on target in both away fixtures to Old Firm rivals Celtic.
The winger has made no secret that his ultimate ambition is to play regular football in the Premier League. While a Koln move won’t immediately fulfil this, a chance to gain experience in one of Europe’s top five league can only be a step in the right direction.
After a friendly last month against Millwall, he said: “To compete in the Premier League - where I want to play football, you need to be physically right. You need to be as good as all the other boys in the league because it's such a physically demanding league. It's something I've had to work hard on over the summer but I'm feeling good in myself and need to show technically as well that I'm at a good level.”
