Tottenham reject advances for midfielder because Thomas Frank wants him in pre-season

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly turned down several advances to sign one of their young guns, who had an outstanding season out on loan in 2024-25.

Several Tottenham Hotspur youngsters have impressed out on loan across various divisions last season, but no player has arguably seen his stock rise as dramatically as Jamie Donley.

The 20-year-old was a linchpin of the Leyton Orient side, driving their promotion push, which ultimately ended in heartbreak in the League One Play-Off final, with Charlton Athletic emerging 1-0 winners against the O’s.

The attacking midfielder scored eight goals and provided 10 assists in 39 league appearances and Donley even came in for praise from Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham yet to decide on Jamie Donley’s future

However, the youngster will now have to win over a new manager and coaching staff when he returns to Hotspur Way, with Postecoglou having been replaced by Thomas Frank.

It was claimed by TBR Football last week that Frank could retain Donley as a part of his first-team plans next season.

It has now been revealed by Football.London’s Alasdair Gold that Spurs have already turned down several loan offers for the midfielder.

Gold explains that Spurs have done this at the request of Frank, who wants to work with Donley in training during pre-season.

However, the journalist does not rule out the possibility of the Spurs academy graduate being loaned out, revealing that Tottenham will ‘reassess’ the youngster’s situation later in the summer.

It has also been reported recently that Tottenham have rejected loan advances for Luka Vuskovic as Frank wants to take a closer look at the Croat during pre-season.

Frank has also reportedly told Spurs to reject offers for Ashley Phillips for the time being, with the Dane not ruling out using the youngster in his first-team plans for the upcoming season.

Several of Tottenham’s young guns thus have a great opportunity to catch the 51-year-old’s eye in pre-season, and they will be keen to make an impression.
