Tottenham Hotspur have sent scouts to check on a Serie A centre-back, whose reputation has exploded over the last two years, but they are not the only ones keeping an eye on the player.

Some outlets are now treating it as almost a foregone conclusion that Cristian Romero will leave Tottenham this summer, which is perhaps why we have seen a lot of centre-backs being linked with a move to North London over recent weeks.

It has now been revealed that Spurs could turn their attention to a young defender who has been one of the standout players for his Serie A club over the last two seasons.

The player in question is Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi, who has just 12 months left on his contract and is thus the subject of a lot of interest.

Tottenham could face a lot of competition for Jhon Lucumi

This update comes from TBR Football, who say that several Premier League sides, including Tottenham Hotspur, have sent emissaries to Italy to watch Jhon Lucumi in action recently.

The Colombian’s progress is also closely being followed by the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Brighton, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Leeds United.

Furthermore, the 26-year-old is also said to be attracting ‘strong interest’ from both Inter Milan and Juventus ahead of the transfer window, thus complicating Tottenham’s pursuit.

MORE SPURS STORIES

While it is unclear where Lucumi will end up this summer, he looks likely to depart Stadio Renato Dall’Ara as Bologna do not want to risk allowing him to run into the final year of his contract.

Tottenham eyeing two Premier League centre-backs but they are not favourites for either

If Spurs are to lose Romero this summer, one would expect them to go after a big-name centre-back who can slot straight into the team in the Argentine’s place.

Some outlets have suggested that Tottenham are eyeing Marc Guehi as Romero’s replacement, but it has been suggested that Chelsea and Liverpool are now the front-runners to land Guehi.
