Tottenham showed an interest in bringing Conor Gallagher back to the Premier League during the summer transfer window.

The midfielder has been away from English football since the summer of 2024, when Chelsea sold him to Atletico Madrid, but he has been heavily linked with a return in the last few months.

Tottenham showed a sustained interest in Gallagher during the summer, with the Spanish capital club understood to be willing to listen to offers for their star.

Thomas Frank’s side were ultimately unable to secure his signature during the summer transfer window, but it could be a very different story by the time January comes around.

Tottenham could secure Conor Gallagher with £45m bid

Tottenham are still keen on Gallagher, and could potentially make a move to try and secure his services in the January transfer window.

Frank is seemingly still unhappy with the state of his squad in N17, despite completing eight new signings in the summer, and that could be a driving factor if Spurs do ultimately make a move for the 25-year-old.

Gallagher has become an important player for Diego Simeone’s side since joining for £34million, and while they would surely want to make a profit on their investment, their stance in the summer suggests that a deal could potentially be there to be done.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that he would be an excellent signing for the Lilywhites, and feels that it may only take a fee of £45m to secure his signature.

“What a buy he (Gallagher) has been for Atletico Madrid,” King said.

“Simeone has built them up to a force in Spain to challenge Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“Gallagher would be a good option for Spurs without a shadow of a doubt.

“At 25, they’d be expecting to have to splash £50m on him, but I think £45m might do the job for Spurs.”

Conor Gallagher would be a great signing for Spurs

Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher is unsurprising given the way that he has been able to revitalise his career in the Spanish capital.

The midfielder came in for criticism at times from both Chelsea and England supporters in the past, but he has taken on a vital role within the Atletico side, and that has seen him produce some of the best football of his career.

He is an energetic presence in the middle of the park and a superb ball-winner, and another addition in the midfield would surely be valuable to Frank, given the contract situations of Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma.

Gallagher’s signing would certainly not come cheaply for Spurs, but that shouldn’t detract from the fact that it would be an impressive piece of business.
