Tottenham are planning to address their goalkeeping conundrum this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have begun scouring the market for a new goalkeeper, with the club looking to upgrade on Guglielmo Vicario.

Vicario, the current Spurs No.1, has been on Inter Milan’s radar for several months. The Italian champions had made him their first-choice goalkeeping target, only for them to recently abandon their pursuit. The Nerazzurri cooling their interest would have been disappointing news for the 29-year-old, but he still could find a way to return to his homeland this summer.

Over recent weeks, Juventus has emerged as the most likely destination for Vicario. It now remains to be seen whether Juventus table an offer for Vicario or not, but Spurs are preparing themselves for the Italian international’s departure. They have set sights on a goalkeeper who hasn’t been first-choice at club level over recent years.

Tottenham set to battle Manchester United for Karl Darlow

Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow emerged as a target for Tottenham. The 35-year-old made 22 Premier League appearances last season after stepping in for Lucas Perri. He was nominated for save of the season and has established himself as Wales No.1 under Craig Bellamy.

However, the veteran glovesman’s contract expires at the end of the month, and Leeds United are trying to hand him a new deal. This has put a few Premier League clubs on red alert. According to a report from The Athletic, Tottenham are set to battle Manchester United for the signing of Karl Darlow on a potential free transfer from Leeds United.

Manchester United view Darlow as a possible replacement for Altay Bayindir, who is expected to leave the club after the World Cup. They want an experienced back-up goalkeeper for Belgium international Senne Lammens, and Darlow fits that bill perfectly.

As for Spurs, Darlow will not represent an upgrade on Vicario. At 35, the Wales international is likely to arrive at White Hart Lane as a back-up goalkeeper only. If the Lilywhites sign him, that would be a clear signal that Roberto De Zerbi feels Antonin Kinsky can establish himself as the club’s No.1 next season.
