Tottenham Hotspur are likely to make a move for Kyle Walker-Peters during the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old will be a free agent soon, and he has been linked with a return to his boyhood club. Tottenham could use more depth and quality in the defensive unit, and Walker-Peters should be a useful acquisition.
He has proven himself to be a capable performer in the top flight, and he will not want to play in the Championship with Southampton. He is not keen on renewing his contract with them. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can get the deal done.
According to former Premier League scout Mick Brown, they will be speaking to the player’s agent in order to assess his demands. Thomas Frank reportedly feels that he could be an upgrade on his current options.
Talks with his agent likely
Brown said on Football Insider: “Thomas Frank will have made an assessment of his current options at full-back and he feels Walker-Peters would be an upgrade on what he’s got.
“On a free transfer, I hear they’re going to look into it because it’s a good opportunity.
“They will be speaking to his agent about what his demands are in terms of playing time and wages.”
Kyle Walker-Peters would be a solid addition
Signing a player of his quality and experience on a free transfer could prove to be a bargain for Tottenham. They need to improve multiple areas of their squad, and signing someone like Walker-Peters on a free transfer will free up the funds to improve the other areas of the squad.
Meanwhile, the opportunity to return to his former club will be quite exciting for the player. He can operate as a right back as well as a wing back. His versatility will be an added bonus. He will look to help Tottenham at both ends of the pitch.
There is no doubt that he is a Premier League-level player, and he could be an asset for the North London club.
Tottenham will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season, and they need a deeper squad with more quality. Signing players like Walker-Peters on a bargain would be a step in the right direction.
