Tottenham can spare themselves summer misery by completing a speedy piece of winter business.

Thomas Frank continues to buy himself time in N17 after Tottenham secured victory against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday.

The Dane isn’t out of the woods, with the sack still looming over Frank at Tottenham after a frustrating January to this point.

Tottenham have only signed Souza and Conor Gallagher so far, but will be hopeful of adding to them in the final days of the window.

The Lilywhites could now speed up their last-gasp movement and further reinforce their midfield rather than risk a transfer delay.

Tottenham to accelerate Leon Goretzka approach

Tottenham have been linked to Goretzka in the final days of the window and could now move for the Bayern Munich man.

The North London club do appear to be in need of new midfield options, even with Gallagher’s move from Atletico Madrid.

With Lucas Bergvall out injured for the foreseeable future, Frank could move to flesh out his squad with further quality before deadline day.

Spanish outlet Fichajes reported on Thursday that Spurs are set to challenge Atletico for the German’s signature and have made direct contact with the midfielder.

Frank and Co. are now pushing to complete a deal in January and are trying to convince Bayern Munich to let the 30-year-old depart now.

A winter deal for Goretzka is now seen as a “priority” with the hope of avoiding a “massive auction” at the Allianz Arena in the summer.

Sami Khedira loves Spurs target Goretzka

The former Schalke man has been around for a long time now, having made close to 300 appearances for Bayern since signing in 2018.

That sort of experience could prove to be massive alongside the likes of Joao Palhinha and Gallagher, while having the youth of Bergvall and Archie Gray waiting in the wings.

If Tottenham fans needed convincing of the German’s credentials, they only have to look towards ex-Real Madrid star Sami Khedira.

Discussing the Spurs target in August on SPORT1, the World Cup winner said: “Outstanding. It shows strength, maturity, but also incredible mentality and clarity of mind.“

These qualities could be exactly what the Lilywhites are missing right now, so making a deal happen as soon as possible is a wise move for Frank.
