Former Rangers winger Mikey Moore could be leaving Tottenham Hotspur before next week’s transfer deadline day, Bundesliga side FC Koln are ‘confident’ they can strike a loan deal.
The 19-year old was a surprise starter for Spurs in their Premier League opening day 3-0 defeat to Brentford, however with manager Roberto De Zerbi looking to bring in a winger and wide men Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert all injured, it’s unlikely that Moore will remain part of the first team picture for the season ahead. Spurs are currently looking at a double deal for Manchester City attackers Savinho and Omar Marmoush.
Moore enjoyed a successful loan spell at Ibrox last season where he got some valuable minutes under his belt. The England youth international is now likely to follow suit this season at Koln, especially if Spurs bring in more attackers. His current Lilywhites contract expires in June 2030.
Koln ‘confident’ they’ll sign former Rangers man on loan
According to German media outlet Bulinews: “For some time now, 1. FC Köln have been in agreement with Mikey Moore over a one-year loan deal with Tottenham, but the deal has yet to be completed. Moore has not yet been given the green light to leave by Tottenham, with the club waiting for new arrivals in attack. Nevertheless, Köln remain confident that the 19-year-old will make the switch to Germany before the transfer window closes.”
Koln Sporting Chief Thomas Kessler hinted that his side are looking at one or two transfer targets from the Premier League, including Moore. He added (while winking): "One or two rumours that have been doing the rounds for a very long time are at least not entirely wrong. And it could also be that major transfers in the Premier League have a direct impact on our squad planning. But we'll see.”
Moore on Premier League ambition
Moore won the SPFL Premiership’s Young Player of the Year award last season after scoring six goals and two assists. While his attacking numbers were fairly modest, his direct dribbling ability and tricky wing play earned him fan favourite status among the Ibrox faithful. He also notable was on target in both away fixtures to Old Firm rivals Celtic.
The winger has made no secret that his ultimate ambition is to play regular football in the Premier League. While the Koln move won’t immediately fulfil this, a chance to gain experience in one of Europe’s top five league can only be a step in the right direction.
After a friendly last month against Millwall, he said: “To compete in the Premier League - where I want to play football, you need to be physically right. You need to be as good as all the other boys in the league because it's such a physically demanding league. It's something I've had to work hard on over the summer but I'm feeling good in myself and need to show technically as well that I'm at a good level.”
