Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from the club, and the player has admitted his desire to play in La Liga.
Atletico Madrid are serious about signing the 27-year-old defender this summer, and the player has admitted that he would love to play in La Liga. His comments will certainly worry the Tottenham fans.
Romero admits his La Liga desire
“I would love to play in La Liga, it’s the one I’m missing,” he said to Gaston Edul.
“I’m going to give my best until the last day I’m here (Tottenham). I’m happy. They make me feel like an important player. Whatever the future holds for me, I’m welcome.”
It is evident that he is open to a move, and it remains to be seen whether Atletico Madrid can secure an agreement with Tottenham. Convincing Daniel Levy to sell one of his best players will not be easy, and they will have to pay a premium.
They are one of the biggest clubs in Spain, and the opportunity to play for them will be hard to turn down for the South American. He will be able to play alongside his Argentine international teammates at the Spanish club, and he will get to work with Diego Simeone as well.
Cristian Romero open to a new challenge
He has won the UEFA Europa League with Tottenham, and he will feel that he needs to join a bigger club in order to win league titles or the Champions League. Atletico Madrid are certainly better placed than Tottenham when it comes to fighting for major trophies.
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks. Losing him would be a major blow for Tottenham, and they will need to replace him adequately.
