Ben Davies’ 12-year spell at Tottenham could come to an end in June.

The left-back has been a stalwart for Tottenham ever since he arrived from Swansea City in July 2014, but his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Davies scored in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Sunday, poking home from Micky van de Ven’s shot across goal.

Davies excelled in his first start of the season, and showed that he still has what it takes to play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, with Tottenham interested in Brazilian left-back Souza, a real question mark has been placed over Davies’ future in N17.

Ben Davies unsure on his Tottenham future after Souza developments

The Daily Mirror has shared that with his contract expiring in June, it remains unclear whether Davies will remain at Tottenham.

French side Nice are rumoured to be interested in the 32-year-old, and what’s even more damning is Tottenham making an £8million bid for Souza.

The deal for the 19-year-old, who plays for Santos, has been rejected, but Spurs are expected to make another offer.

After the Sunderland match, Davies spoke out on what his future may hold.

He said: “When you’re in your thirties, you just want to play as much as you can. I got a chance to play, and I did my best. I feel like I did my job.

“This one [my future] is out of my hands.”

Should Davies leave, it would mark the end of an era for one of Tottenham’s most reliable players in their Premier League history, and he would be a huge miss both on and off the pitch.

What could Davies’ potential replacement, Souza, bring to Tottenham?

Spurs are always focused on signing young talent and developing them into top players.

Souza reportedly has a pair of release clauses in his contract, worth €100m (£87.1m) to foreign clubs, or €60m (£52.2m) for another Brazilian side.

Of course, Tottenham won’t pay that much for such a young talent, but the 19-year-old’s potential is sky-high.

Having made 38 senior appearances, he has registered four assists from the left-back position, and has had 42 touches in the opposition box in 2025-26.

Spurs are in desperate need of an attacking left-back, and the recruitment team have proven themselves to be astute when searching for younger players.

Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Luka Vuskovic are among the promising players Tottenham have on their books who could turn into world-beaters, and Souza’s threat from defence has him earmarked as another top talent.
