Tottenham Hotspur have seen an £8m bid rejected for Santos left-back Souza, according to a report from The Athletic.

Spurs are looking to add reinforcements in the January transfer window as they aim to give Thomas Frank the tools to turn things around after a disappointing start to the season. The north London outfit are yet to bring in any new additions just yet, but they do have an increased transfer kitty after Brennan Johnson joined Crystal Palace for a fee of around £35m.

Tottenham have won just once in their previous five Premier League games, and they sit in 13th place after the weekend's fixtures. It's been a poor start to Frank's tenure, and they'll need to look at strengthening their squad if they want to head back in the right direction.

Tottenham Make Offer for Brazilian Star

According to a report from The Athletic, Tottenham have seen an £8m bid rejected for Santos left-back Souza. The Brazilian outfit don't want to accept a bid for the youngster as they believe his value is going to increase in the future.

The young left-back, described as 'exceptionally quick' by Transfermarkt, does have a release clause worth around £87m in his contract for clubs from overseas. It's claimed that Tottenham are looking to strengthen their options at full-back before the winter window closes. Destiny Udogie is currently out injured, with ageing Ben Davies filling in at left-back against Sunderland on Sunday.

Last season, despite his age, Souza made 24 appearances for Santos in the Brazilian Serie A, helping them avoid relegation. The 19-year-old has made 12 appearances for Brazil's U17 side, and considering his impact at senior level already, he's certainly an exciting talent for the future.

Tottenham Should Prioritise Senior Additions

Although bringing in young talents from around the world is a sound recruitment strategy, Tottenham need to be prioritising moves for players who can make an immediate impact. Bringing in Souza would certainly be exciting for the future, but he's unlikely to become a regular starter in the Premier League at his age.

Souza will need time to settle into a new country, league, and club, and Tottenham need players for the here and now. Spurs are battling in the bottom half of the Premier League under Frank, and they need reinforcements to drag them back into the race for the European places.
