Tottenham are in talks with a Qatar-based consortium over a potential takeover deal following Daniel Levy’s surprise departure, journalist James Murray has claimed.
The North London club announced the departure of their executive chairman on Thursday, with Levy ending his near 25-year reign with immediate effect.
While Peter Charrington has since been appointed as the club’s new non-executive chairman, Tottenham insisted there will be no changes to ownership, with ENIC retaining an 86.58% stake.
However, Murray claims behind-the-scenes discussions have been ongoing regarding a potential takeover, with one of the interested parties believed to be a Qatari consortium spearheaded by former Newcastle United chief Amanda Staveley, who sold her 10% stake at St James’ Park in July last year.
The other potential investor is said to be an unnamed American group, with US-based MSP Sports Capital among those linked with Spurs in recent months.

According to Murray, Tottenham have been trying to secure new investment over the past couple of years, hoping fresh backers could help push the club towards competing at the top of the Premier League table again.
Spurs finished just 17th in the league under Ange Postecoglou last term and parted ways with the Australian as a result, despite ending their 17-year wait for a trophy by lifting the Europa League in Bilbao.
The Lilywhites have finished in the league’s top four only once in the past six seasons, in 2021/22 under Antonio Conte, who was sacked after just 16 months in charge in March 2023.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Postecoglou averaged 1.37 points per game in the Premier League during his two seasons with Tottenham.
Tottenham spent over £180m on new signings in Levy’s final summer at the club, with Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani all arriving.
The Lilywhites have started the season under Thomas Frank with two league wins over Burnley and Manchester City, before falling to a 1-0 home defeat against Bournemouth last weekend.
Following the international break, Spurs face West Ham away in the league and begin their Champions League campaign with a home clash against Villarreal.
