Tottenham are looking to get their business done early in the summer transfer window, with a number of players already heavily linked with move to N17.
Spurs have agreements in place to bring free agents Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi to the club from Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively - moves that will strengthen their backline considerably.
And now they are back in for another player - like Robertson - that they wanted to sign in a previous window in Savinho at Manchester City.
Spurs could have signed Savinho last summer
Tottenham were linked with a move for the Brazilian last summer, but could not get a deal over the line after City eventually blocked his exit. The 22-year-old was understood to be keen on the move, but stayed at the Etihad Stadium and actually put pen to paper on a new deal with the Citizens.
However, he only started seven Premier League games under Pep Guardiola this season and could look for a way out of the club, although a new manager coming in could lead him to re-evaluate and fight for his place.
Tottenham are ready to open talks over a deal to sign the frontman this summer, and the Brazilian remains open to a move to north London, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: "Keep an eye again on Tottenham and Savinho. Last summer Tottenham wanted to go all in for Savinho, sent two official bids to Manchester City, but Man City decided not to proceed.
"City were considering going for Rodrygo from Real Madrid and letting Savinho go to Tottenham. Then the Rodrygo deal was not possible and also City decided to trust Savinho and so they offered him a new contract.
Managerial change has not changed Spurs' minds
"But this season for Savinho at Man City has not been easy. He wants to play on a regular basis and now Tottenham are prepared to go for it. Roberto De Zerbi and people at Tottenham want Savinho. So now they are prepared to reopen negotiations with Manchester City. "Tottenham are prepared to open again talks with Manchester City. My understanding is that Savinho was open to joining Tottenham from Manchester City in summer 2025 but at the time city decided to trust him and Savinho was more than happy to sign a new contract.
"But, let me say, if this summer Tottenham and City reach an agreement Savinho will be a Spurs player because the player is quite open to the move even without European football at Tottenham."
