Tottenham Hotspur signed Luka Vušković during the summer of 2023, and the Croatian defender joined up with his new club earlier this summer.

The player has been sent out on loan to Hamburg so that he can continue his development with regular gametime. He would have struggled for opportunities in the Premier League at this stage of his career, and sitting on the bench at the London club would not have benefited him.

He will look to play more often in Germany and grow as a footballer. The player is highly rated across Europe, and Mladen Petric believes that he could be the next superstar out of Croatia.

Vušković tipped to be a star

“Luka is a pretty hot prospect, one of the top talents in Croatia,” he said via SportWitness.

“He reminds me of the young Josko Gvardiol, who now plays for Manchester City. Vuskovic could become the next superstar in our country.

“I’m curious to see how quickly Luka settles into his role as defensive leader at HSV, leading the team from the back. That could take a while. He’s definitely an asset to my former team. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for him and the team.”

Luka Vušković needed the loan spell

The decision to send him out on loan this summer is certainly a wise one. The 18-year-old was very impressive during pre-season, and there were rumours that he could be integrated into the first team. However, he would not have started ahead of Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven. It makes sense for Spurs to find other avenues to get him to play more often.

The 18-year-old will look to improve as a player and force his way into the Tottenham first team plans in future. Meanwhile, the comments from Petric will certainly excite Tottenham fans going forward.
