Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou continues to divide opinion, but former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan believes the club have made the wrong call in appointing Thomas Frank as his successor.

The debate on whether or not Ange Postecoglou should have been sacked as manager of Tottenham Hotspur continues to ring loud.

Of course, it is a conversation worth having, as Tottenham axed the very manager who ended a 17-year wait for silverware, after he won Spurs the Europa League, beating Manchester United in Bilbao, Spain.

However, it has since been revealed by Tottenham that the decision to sack Postecoglou was not an easy one, as the club were much aware of the emotional attachment and sentiment Ange had with fans after giving them one of their most cherished memories in recent years.

Simon Jordan says Spurs made the wrong call replacing Ange Postecoglou

Performance-related reasons, particularly in the Premier League, were stated as the reason why Spurs chose to cut ties with Ange Postecoglou, as the Australian picked up a rather poor 78 points from his last 66 games, a record that is not good enough for a club of Spurs‘ stature.

Ben Davies has since come out to urge the players to move on, while Harry Redknapp has slammed the Spurs players for not doing enough to keep Postecoglou in his job.

With the Australian manager gone, Tottenham have since appointed Thomas Frank as the new head coach, but Simon Jordan believes that Spurs have appointed the wrong manager.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The talkSport co-host believes that Oliver Glasner, one of the managers on Tottenham’s shortlist, would have been a better hire, stating that his FA Cup win gives him an edge over Frank.

He said as relayed on talkSport: “I am sorry Crystal Palace fans but I would have gone that way. It is a difficult one to contextualise about the upgrade because they have won something but Brentford have finished above them in the league and it becomes by which metric do you measure this upgrade?

“Clearly they think it is an upgrade otherwise Ange Postecoglou would still be in the job and this fellow would not be. It is a very easy answer to give and both of us are giving it and we will find out.

“Again it is by what metric. If you want your team at the upper end of the Premier League at all costs, then the answer probably is yes.

“If you want them to win something again, I do not know. I do not know.”

What Thomas Frank must prove at Spurs after replacing Postecoglou

Of course, Thomas Frank has not managed a major trophy throughout his managerial career, with a single promotion cup with Brentford being the closest thing to a piece of silverware.

However, the manager has proven throughout his career that he can punch above his weight, as he kept Brentford in the Premier League since he got them promoted back in 2021.

While Simon Jordan clearly favours Glasner, several former Tottenham players, including Jermain Defoe, have labelled Frank as the perfect manager for Spurs at the moment.

Meanwhile, Martin O’Neill also chimed in, admitting that time will tell whether Frank is an upgrade on Postecoglou.

The former Aston Villa manager added: “Only time will tell, like everything else. I cannot read into the future.

“If you are asking me if Thomas Frank deserved the opportunity to manage a bigger club than Brentford, if that is the case, what he has done at Brentford, I would suggest yes, he has earned that right.

“If he goes and wins a big competition for Tottenham Hotspur and has better results in the Premier League, then you would have to say that is right but that is in the future.”
