Clinton Morrison believes that Tottenham’s priority should be very clear in January after news broke regarding a winger’s contract on Monday.
According to reports, Tottenham are keen to make a statement attacking signing in January, with Thomas Frank wanting to bring a top-class wide-forward through the door.
After a big update by David Ornstein on Monday, the Lilywhites have now been handed a massive chance to land one of the brightest attackers across the Premier League.
Ornstein revealed that a £65m release clause in Antoine Semenyo’s contract becomes active in January, and the news comes amidst heavy speculation over recent weeks that the Bournemouth winger is at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist.
Clinton Morrison claims Tottenham need Antoine Semenyo the most
Landing the 25-year-old in January appears a difficult task for Thomas Frank’s men, as it has been reported that Liverpool and Man City are ready to battle Spurs for Semenyo.
Morrison believes that the Lilywhites need the Ghana international much more desperately than either the Reds or the Cityzens.
When asked which club in the Premier League needs Semenyo the most, the former Crystal Palace forward told Sky Sports News (17/11/25 – 18:17): “I think Tottenham need him the most, without a shadow of doubt. I thought he was going to go to Liverpool in the summer with the connection with Richard Hughes [sporting director], obviously going to Liverpool, and being at Bournemouth and knowing Semenyo.

“I think that Man City have a lot of options in wide areas and they probably have to lose a few, because he needs to be playing week in, week out.
“Tottenham Hotspur need a wide player like Semenyo. For me, every team needs him, but I think the most when I’m looking at it now, I’m thinking to myself, come January, it will probably be Tottenham that will be looking to pay that money for Semenyo. Man City and Liverpool, those sorts of clubs are interested in him and he’s doing ever so well.
“I just like him. I like him as a player, I like his personality and I like the confidence that he has. I know he missed a penalty previously against Aston Villa, but I can guarantee that when they get another penalty, he’ll take the ball. He’s full of confidence. I think he’s got the world at his feet, and he’s at a good age as well.”
Can Spurs beat their Premier League rivals to Semenyo?
It is not just competition from Man City and Liverpool that Tottenham would have to contend with, with Man United also alleged to be plotting a move for Semenyo in January.
However, out of those three clubs, the biggest threat appears likely to come from the Reds, with reports indicating Liverpool view Semenyo as the heir to Mohammed Salah.
The Lilywhites will thus have their work cut out in convincing the Bournemouth man that a switch to N17 would be the right next step for him.
