Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso is ‘not convinced’ about signing for Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Spanish outlet ABC Sevilla (via Sport Witness).
The USA international reportedly has reservations over an offseason move to North London due to Spurs’ poor domestic form, as they sit just 16th in the league with four games to go.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are now heading for their worst Premier League finish to date, having never ended up outside the top 15 since the competition’s inaugural season in 1992/93.
While they can still qualify for next season’s Champions League by winning the Europa League, failure to do so could prove to be a huge blow in their pursuit of one of their summer targets.
Jhonny Cardoso Not Keen on Spurs Move
Their poor domestic form is the reason
According to ABC Sevilla, Cardoso will have the final say over a potential move to Spurs this summer, despite the Lilywhites holding an option to buy the 23-year-old for £21m.
At present, he is reportedly ‘not convinced’ about a move, and there is a chance Real Betis could keep him for another season.
Cardoso, praised as ‘extraordinary’, is believed to have multiple suitors in the Premier League amid an impressive season in La Liga, where Betis are sixth with five games remaining.
The 23-year-old has made 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Cardoso has yet to score or assist in 18 appearances for the United States.
Tottenham are likely to resolve Postecoglou’s future before pursuing any new signings, and there is a growing feeling the Australian could depart at the end of the season.
Spurs have already begun drawing up a list of potential successors, with Burnley boss Scott Parker among the names.
