Tottenham have plenty of work to do as their first pre-season game quickly approaches.
The Lilywhites confirmed on Friday (27 June) that they have added to their pre-season schedule, as they take on Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in just over three weeks (19 July).
Thomas Frank will be hoping to have concluded some transfer business by then, with supporters growing increasingly restless with the lack of arrivals in North London.
With this in mind, Tottenham News rounds up the latest emerging from N17.
Tottenham want to sign Josh Acheampong
As reported by The Independent (26 June), Spurs are interested in a move for Chelsea gem Josh Acheampong, having tracked the defender for some time.
MORE SPURS STORIES
The 19-year-old has progressed through the ranks in West London and made his breakthrough with the Blues last season, recently starting in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory against Esperance at the FIFA Club World Cup (25 June).
Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle are also monitoring Acheampong, while Tottenham’s rivals could be open to selling the teenager as they look to manage Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR) concerns.
Cristian Romero could hand in a transfer request
Cristian Romero has been linked with Atletico Madrid this summer, with Daniel Levy recently setting his price for the Argentine at £60million [The Telegraph].
As reported by AS (27 June), Atletico are only willing to offer £51.2m for the World Cup winner, with Diego Simeone very keen on bringing his compatriot to Spain.
Significantly, this is below Levy’s valuation, which could prompt Romero to hand in a transfer request to force through a move.
Frank is expected to hold talks with Romero in the coming days to come to a final decision for the benefit of both the player and the club.
Arsenal join the race to sign Eberechi Eze
Tottenham have had an interest in Crystal Palace’s maverick Eberechi Eze for years, and were preparing to make the attacking midfielder their marquee signing of the summer.
However, the Lilywhites received possibly the worst news possible as it has emerged that bitter rivals Arsenal could hijack Spurs’ move and are now favourites to sign the 26-year-old, as per The Mirror (27 June).
The talented England international was crucial in securing Crystal Palace their first major trophy by scoring the only goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Were he to join the Gunners, it would be a bitter blow to both Frank and the Tottenham faithful, who have dreamed of seeing Eze in a Spurs shirt for years.
