Daniel Levy is arguably the most divisive chairman in the Premier League, a narrative that has also unfolded within Tottenham.

A lack of spending has hampered his reputation among Spurs supporters, with fan protests a regular fixture in North London.

Levy is also known for his stubbornness in the transfer market as he aims to squeeze every last penny out of his players and other clubs.

Notoriously, Harry Kane was in limbo before he joined Bayern Munich, eventually leaving the Lilywhites for £86.4million.

Premier League club bans transfers with Tottenham due to Levy

Levy might be about to lose another Spurs legend as Son Heung-min enters the final year of his Tottenham contract.

MORE SPURS STORIES

If he does, then Levy will be sure to demand a substantial fee as Son has admirers in Saudi Arabia.

Amid news that a Premier League club has all-but-banned transfer dealings with Tottenham over Levy, football finance expert Dan Plumley has exclusively shared his insight with Tottenham News.

“Very unusual, but again, nothing surprises us in football nowadays, does it?” he said.

“It’s not something I’ve seen or heard throughout historical cases. I know sometimes these things never make it to the light of day.

“It sounds like an unusual one, especially in the market nowadays, where if you have got a player you want, or vice versa, then you get the feeling money might talk at the end of the day.

“But, it’s certainly an interesting take on things in terms of the way that’s positioned, and that’s where you get into the realms of the egos that play in the boardroom, the powerhouses that you’re dealing with, and that’s the people piece within the football club dynamic.

“It’s certainly the first time I’ve seen or heard of anything to that effect, certainly in terms of a full ‘we’re not dealing with you’ type approach.

“You fall out over players from time to time, and negotiations don’t always work in your favour, but to have a near total ban on dealing with one club is the first that I’ve heard of.”

Could Levy’s actions hamper relationships with other clubs?

A relationship works both ways, and if Levy has angered another club to the point of a ban, then surely that will cost Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola has openly talked about trying to do business with Levy with the press after reports that Manchester City tried to sign Kane.

Of course, Spurs’ chairman has the best interests of the North London club at heart, but at what cost?
