Tottenham could look to deal another blow to Manchester United and Ruben Amorim.

Tottenham claimed four victories over Manchester United last season, including a famous 1-0 win in the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao (21 May).

The Liywhites are already set to compete with United for the signatures of Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo, and have been urged to beat the Red Devils to another potential signing.

Tottenham urged to sign João Palhinha from Bayern Munich

João Palhinha struggled to start consistently for Bayern Munich last season after picking up a muscle injury in November.

The midfielder played just 941 minutes across 24 appearances for the German side and will no doubt be considering a move this summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

As reported by Mirror Football, via Football Fancast (9 June), Manchester United are weighing up a move to sign Palhinha, who could be available for just £25million.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Spurs should make the midfielder a top priority.

“Tottenham need an experienced defensive midfielder,” Wenham said.

“That should be a priority this summer. I saw reports that Palhinha is available for £25m, and Manchester United are looking at him.

“It should be Tottenham who are looking at him, we’re desperate for a player of his quality.”

Palhinha may not be the right choice for Tottenham

There is no doubt that Tottenham need to add experience this summer. The Lilywhites have been focused on scouting young talent, but the policy could come back to haunt Daniel Levy later down the line.

There are several reasons why Palhinha would be a good buy. The midfielder has played in the UEFA Champions League, which could benefit Spurs hugely during the upcoming campaign.

At 29 years of age, he is also experienced, and the Lilywhites need defensive options in the midfield.

However, while experience comes with age, so does the potential for a swift decline. Palhinha is meant to be in his prime years, but there is little way of knowing how long it could continue. The injuries he suffered this season cannot have helped things at all.

The midfielder also may be unwilling to accept a rotational role, which Spurs will most likely offer him. Therefore, Tottenham should think twice before going for someone whose best years may be behind them.
