Tottenham vs Crystal Palacepreview
A year is a long time in football and Tottenham and Crystal Palace have gone some way towards proving that this season.
Spurs lifted the Europa League and Crystal Palace triumphed in the FA Cup last May but fast forward to the present and the pair are spending their spring attempting to distance themselves from a relegation battle.
Two losses in Igor Tudor’s first two games mean Tottenham started the midweek round four points above the drop zone and with Palace only six points better off than the Lilywhites, Thursday’s London derby is a crucial one.
A win for either side would prove huge in their bid to avoid a potentially catastrophic relegation but neither have shown anything in recent weeks to encourage punters to get behind them.
The pair have each lost eight of their last 13 Premier League games and both have key players unavailable.
Cristian Romero and Maxence Lacroix’s suspensions mean both sides will be without their best centre-back and two shaky defences may be exploited in north London.
Fulham should have scored way more than the two goals they put past Spurs on Sunday while Palace were also fortunate to only lose 2-1 on the same day against Manchester United, who had 11 shots on target at Old Trafford.
Those defences should again come under serious pressure as the one positive for the pair is that they are still scoring goals. The Eagles have scored in ten games in a row while Tottenham have failed to find the net in only one of their last 12 outings.
Tudor desperately needs improvement from his struggling Spurs side and will go on the front foot while Palace, due to Lacroix’s suspension and Marc Guehi’s January exit, don’t have the defensive reinforcements to sit back and absorb pressure.
An open game between two desperate sides is expected in north London and goals look certain to flow.
Sarr set to star against sorry Spurs
Tottenham had major problems dealing with Fulham’s Oscar Bobb, Harry Wilson and substitute Samuel Chukwueze on Sunday and another tricky winger looks set to cause them problems this time.
Ismaila Sarr has bags of pace and should have no trouble getting behind a Spurs defence which has shipped at least two goals in eight consecutive Premier League games.
The Senegalese speedster has scored three goals in his last four away appearances and can find joy on the road again.
Palace primed to make a fast start
It took Fulham just seven minutes to find the net against Tottenham on Sunday and, with a toxic atmosphere expected in north London, Tudor’s struggling Spurs might make another sluggish start.
Palace led Manchester United 1-0 after only four minutes over the weekend and they will be keen to add to Tottenham’s growing nerves by going on the front foot from the off.
Tottenham vs Crystal Palace Bet Builder
Both teams to score
Eight of Tottenham’s last nine league games as well as five of Palace’s last seven top-flight outings have featured goals for both teams.
Jorgen Strand Larsen to have two or more shots
The Norwegian has managed nine shots in four Premier League appearances for the Eagles and should get plenty of opportunities to let fly.
Micky van de Ven to be booked
The Dutch defender picked up a seventh Premier League booking of the season against Fulham for a late challenge and with Spurs facing another frustrating game, he may show his ire again.
